Most house fires I hear about start in the electrical. Old panels, loose connections, wires chewed by mice, power strips stacked on power strips. None of it gives you a warning; until it does.

Fire Prevention Week: go check your smoke alarms actually work, and if your panel's more than 20 years old, have someone take a look. I'll do it, quotes are free. Stay safe out there.

**Don't let a cord put you on the floor ⚡**

Slips, trips, and falls send more people to the ER than you'd think — and a lot of them start with something electrical.

A few things I see on almost every job:

🔌 **Extension cords across walkways.** Run them along walls or tape them down. A cord across a hallway is a trip waiting to happen.

💡 **Dark stairways and entryways.** If you're squinting to see the steps, add a light. Motion-sensor lights outside are cheap and do the job.

💧 **Wet areas near outlets and panels.** Water and electricity are a bad mix — keep the area around your panel and outdoor outlets dry and clear.

📦 **Clutter around the breaker box.** In an emergency you don't want to be climbing over boxes to kill the power.

🔴 SAFETY TIPS EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW:
⚡ 1. STAY AWAY FROM DOWNED POWER LINES
Never touch a fallen power line or anything in contact with it. Stay at least 35 feet away and keep children and pets away.
🌊 2. NEVER WALK OR DRIVE THROUGH FLOODWATER
Floodwater may be electrically energized. Never assume it is safe, even if the water looks calm.
🔌 3. STAY AWAY FROM WET ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

Do not touch electrical outlets, appliances, or electrical panels if you are standing in water or they are wet.
📞 4. REPORT ELECTRICAL DANGERS
If you see a downed power line, stay away and contact your electric utility or emergency services. Call 911 if there is an immediate danger.
