On this Brookhaven porch the handrail cap had weathered down to bare, cracked wood, and rot had started where a post meets the rail. Is your garden hose still hooked to the spigot? 🥶

Atlanta's first freeze usually shows up in November, and a hose left connected traps water in the faucet. When that water freezes it can split the pipe inside your wall, and you often don't find out until the leak shows up in the crawlspace or basement.

Three quick steps this weekend:
1. Disconnect and drain every hose.
2. If the spigot has an indoor shut-off valve, close it, then open the outside tap so it drains.
3. Cap it with a foam faucet cover.
