A visit to San Francisco always fills my soul and sets my imagination alight. A true highlight, along with spending the week with my beautiful mom, was Jacob Hashimoto's Giant Arc. at SFMOMA. The other-worldly installation mixes nearly 75,000 kite-like elements into a cloud canopy that covers an entire gallery, floor to ceiling and wall to wall. The hand-built kites, made of bamboo and Japanese paper, seemingly float through the air, blending sculpture, design, and environment.

Two years from mood board to the making, and we're done!

In a 12,000 sf home with seven bathrooms, the only one with a tub was in a bonus room above the garage. A bit of a trek with a baby in tow.

Before an inch of demo was approved, everything was on-site or stored nearby. And every single selection and design decision was made specifically with the client’s needs and bold aesthetic in mind.

Custom-color zellige tile from Morocco with a seven-month leadtime, plumbing from Germany, custom closets from Italy, a pink onyx slab that graces the custom vanity, baseboard, shower bench and niche, not to mention that giant hammered copper tub, and Caryn's insistence that the grout colors be perfect Pantone matches to the hand-made tiles.

Icing on the cake, a note from the client upon arriving home and putting little Ruby in the bath with bubbles everywhere, “this is heaven”.

The copper tub is in and it's looking gorgeous! Click on the tags -- it takes a symphony of collaborators (which I guess makes me the conductor) to pull all of the details together, and we're not quite done yet. We've got onyx counters, custom vanities, Pantone matches on the grout, reclaimed timber floors, a custom-size Ochre chandelier.
