The best gift you can give yourself this season?

SPACE!

Not another candle. Not another pair of shoes. Not another bottle of cologne. And definitely not another storage bin for stuff you don’t even need!

I’m talking about space to breathe, space to entertain, and space to actually enjoy your home.

Before the holiday guests arrive and the celebrations begin, let’s get your home together!

Here’s another idea: Give someone you love the gift of an organized home. Now THAT’S a gift they can actually use!

Simply Straight Organizing Solutions is booking holiday organizing sessions, and gift certificates are available upon request.

Serving Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, and surrounding Atlanta communities.

Visit www.simplystraightos.com or send me a DM to get started.

Less clutter. More space for what matters.

One of my FAVORITE organizing products costs less than $2.

And no, it’s not pretty. It’s not designer. It’s not acrylic. It’s definitely not giving Pinterest.

But baby, IT WORKS.

This little over-the-door hanging rack from Dollar Tree has been one of my organizing staples for YEARS.

I originally bought some to travel with. Then I started using them around my own house. Then I started bringing them to clients’ homes.

Now I keep several on hand because I never know when one is going to solve a problem.

I’ve used these little things for hats, purses, backpacks, belts, robes, pajamas, towels, shower caps, umbrellas, gift bags, brooms, mops, small handheld vacuums, bike helmets, medals, dog leashes and probably 25 other things I can’t even remember.

If I need to get something off the floor, off a chair, or off a counter and give it a home, this little thing has come through more times than I can count.

I even keep them on hand for my clients. If one can give us a quick, functional solution, I’ll pull it out and use it. I’m not sending somebody out to buy a $15 organizer for a problem I can solve right then for less than $2.

And if they eventually want to upgrade it to something prettier? Absolutely.

But sometimes they don’t need to.

I have some in my OWN house that were supposed to be temporary solutions, and YEARS later they’re still there.

Why?

Because they work.

Everything doesn’t have to be expensive. Everything doesn’t have to match. And every organizing solution does NOT have to be Instagram pretty.

Sometimes you just need something that solves the damn problem.

Function first. Pretty second.

And PLEASE don’t pay $10-$15 online for one before you check Dollar Tree.

I have so many clients who feel guilty getting rid of gifts.

“But my mom gave me that.”
“My friend bought me that.”
“That was a Christmas present.”
“I’d feel bad giving it away.”

Okay... but you don’t use it.

It’s been sitting in the back of a closet for three years. Still in the box. Collecting dust. Taking up space.

At some point, we have to realize that not using a gift isn’t honoring the gift either.

You were grateful when you received it. You appreciated the thought. You thanked the person who gave it to you.

That does not mean you signed a lifetime storage contract.

If you don’t love it, don’t need it, and KNOW you’re never going to use it, let it go.

Donate it. Give it to someone who will actually use it. And if it’s not worth donating, yes... throw that s**t away. 😂

And please stop feeling guilty.

You can love the person without loving the present.

Gratitude does not require storage. 💙

I have an unpopular opinion: sometimes a storage unit is just the waiting room before the trash, donation center, or Facebook Marketplace.

And apparently, we LOVE our storage units.
Self-storage is now a $61+ BILLION industry in the U.S., with more than 64,000 facilities nationwide. About 16.7 million American households rent storage.

Now listen, I’m not anti-storage. I’m a professional organizer who organizes storage units! Storage absolutely has a purpose.

Seasonal decorations you actually use? Fine.

Business inventory you’re actively accessing? Fine.

Temporary storage during a move or life transition? Absolutely.

But if you haven’t opened that unit in months, don’t really know what’s in there, and if I asked you to list everything inside for an insurance claim you’d be like… ummmm???

We need to talk.

Because at that point, you’re basically paying rent for your stuff. Every. Single. Month.

My client started with THREE storage units. Three units. Three monthly payments.
This particular unit was almost entirely paper.
Boxes. And boxes. And boxes. Of paper.

We sorted through what needed to stay, had the rest professionally shredded, cleared the unit, and most importantly, stopped one monthly payment.

Now we have two units left, filled mostly with personal property. And the goal isn’t to move everything somewhere else and call it organized.

We’re going to sell, donate, discard, and keep only what actually deserves space in his life.

Some of those items will even be sold right from the storage facility.

ONE DOWN. TWO TO GO.

Stay tuned because we’re not finished yet.

Before every organizing project, there is one very important step…

🎶 THE CAR CONCERT.

I turn the music ALL the way up, sing entirely too loud, and hype myself up before I walk into somebody’s garage, basement, storage unit, closet… whatever we’re tackling that day
Music has always been a huge part of my life. Everybody in my family loves music, so singing in the car is pretty much inevitable.

By the time I pull up to your house, I’ve already had a full concert, probably hit several notes I had no business attempting, and I’m READY.

Today’s selection: George Michael.

This is how your organizer gets herself together before she comes to get YOUR stuff together. 🎶
