In Loving Memory of Tatum Christensen
Today, our hearts are heavy as we mourn the tragic passing of Tatum Christensen. There are moments in life when words simply cannot express the sorrow we feel, and the sudden loss of someone from our community is one of them.
In a small community like ours, we are more than neighbors. We are friends, families, and people whose lives are woven together. When one of us hurts, we all feel that loss. And when sorrow comes, we are called to draw closer, to hold one another up, and to remind each other that we do not walk through grief alone.
Jesus reminds us, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” (Matthew 5:4). Notice that Jesus does not tell us not to mourn. He promises that even in our mourning, God will be present with His comfort and love.
In the days ahead, I encourage you to embrace one another. Share your memories of Tatum. Laugh together when those memories bring joy, and don't be afraid to cry when they bring tears. Most of all, share the precious gift of faith we've been given. For our hope is not simply that we will remember those we love, but that through Jesus Christ, death does not have the final word.
Jesus tells us, “Because I live, you will live too” (John 14:19). This is the promise we hold onto, even when our hearts are breaking.
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, today we come before You with broken hearts, lifting Tatum into Your loving and merciful care. Surround his family and friends with Your presence, especially in those moments when grief seems too heavy to bear. Draw our community together in love, helping us to become Your hands of comfort, Your arms of compassion, and Your voice of hope. Remind us that the love we share is a gift from You, and that through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have a hope that even death cannot destroy. Hold us close, Lord, until that glorious day when tears are wiped away and sorrow is no more. In the name of Jesus Christ, our risen Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.
With love, sympathy, and prayers for Tatum's family and our entire community,
Pastor Sean
