In this Did You Know, Sofia explains bud sets, winter dormancy, and how protective bud scales help shelter that growth through the colder months. There’s a lot happening on those branches—even when your tree looks like it’s taking a break!

Those golden fall leaves? Their color was hiding there all summer. 🍂👀

Why do leaves change color in fall? As daylight gets shorter, trees slow their production of chlorophyll—the pigment that makes leaves green. As it breaks down, yellow and orange pigments become visible! 🍁

Red and purple shades come from pigments called anthocyanins, which some trees produce in autumn. Sunlight, temperature, and moisture all help influence how colorful the show gets.

From golden aspens to brilliant maples, Colorado fall colors make this season something special. And understanding your trees makes watching them change even better! 🌳
