A special visit to the A Bar A Ranch: Photography Week

We recently returned to Wyoming to photograph the project and were fortunate to experience the ranch in action during its final week of guests for the season.

It was a treat to see the landscape continue to grow in, the communal spaces come to life as we had envisioned, and join the Ranch in celebration.

Projects like this remind us that great design is about more than the spaces we create; it’s about the experiences and connections that they make possible.

We are looking forward to sharing final photography soon!

BG Architecture & Design is honored to have been selected as Architect of Record for the Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District’s capital improvement projects.

The multi-phase initiative will modernize the District’s facilities and expand its operational capabilities across the Roaring Fork and Crystal River Valleys. The work will span seven facilities, including new and renovated fire stations, workforce housing, and improvements to the District headquarters.

The first phase—modernization of Carbondale’s Station 81—is set to begin construction this September.

We’re proud to contribute to the continued strength, resilience, and future of our local fire district and the communities it serves.

Last week, our team had the opportunity to attend the AIA26 Conference on Architecture & Design in San Diego—an inspiring few days of learning, connecting, and exploring what's next for the profession.

One of the most exciting themes throughout the conference was the role of AI in architecture. Rather than replacing design, we learned how emerging tools can streamline many of the administrative and non-client-facing aspects of practice, allowing architects to dedicate more time and energy to what matters most: thoughtful design, collaboration, and delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients.

We were also thrilled to witness Shigeru Ban, architect of the Aspen Art Museum, receive the AIA Gold Medal in recognition of his remarkable contributions to architecture and humanitarian design.

Between discovering hundreds of new products and technologies, reconnecting with colleagues from across the industry, and enjoying San Diego's incredible weather and Michelin Guide-recommended dining, AIA26 was a reminder of how innovation, craftsmanship, and community continue to shape the future of architecture.

A thoughtful transformation without adding square footage. This Snowmass Village residence was challenged by dark exterior finishes, dated materials, and an unclear primary entry sequence. Rather than expanding the home, the design focused on clarifying arrival and enhancing the architectural expression.

A new front patio, more articulated posts and wall planes, and a reimagined entry composition create a welcoming sense of approach. By allowing the entry door and stair enclosure to become a single transparent steel-and-glass element, the architecture naturally communicates where to enter—bringing light, clarity, and a renewed identity to the home.

We were fortunate to provide full-service architectural and interior design services for this slope-side residence. Rather than relying on extensive reconstruction, just a handful of strategic structural and spatial interventions combined with a locally sourced material palette unlocked the home's full potential. The result is a transformational design that feels deeply rooted in place while making efficient use of the construction budget.

Our team provides turnkey design services, but this does not mean "one-size-fits-all." We welcome collaboration with clients' preferred design specialists, consultants and creative partners.

Our role is to coordinate, elevate and deliver-whether we're leading a full team or integrating into an existing one.

A preview of a project in the works - The Elk Camp Residence.

Situated on a lush, slope side lot in Snowmass Village, this modernist 1980s home is given new life. The dark exteriors and compact gathering spaces is give way to an inviting entry and sleek interiors - primed for a family ski vacation.

Spring is here, and this is a patio post.

A patio serves as a vital connection between a home and its natural surroundings, each with their unique character.

Successful patio design requires careful listening and understanding of the owner's goals and lifestyle, harmoniously balanced with the opportunities presented by the surrounding landscape.

Located at the entrance to the ranch core, the A Bar A Ranch staff housing isn't tucked away from view, but rather serves the important role of setting the tone for the guest experience to come.

The solution paired modern construction methods and building technologies with historically relevant materials and forms to create honest interpretations, but not replications, of history. Quiet, respectful architecture that is rooted in it it's sense of place.

The weather aligned perfectly for this year's office cat skiing trip. Always celebrating the reasons we live in the Roaring Fork Valley.
