Traditional Living & Dining Room Interior Design Report
Our Goal
The goal is a classic, polished look that keeps the home’s character without making the rooms feel too busy. Keep the cream-colored seating, dark wood furniture, crystal chandelier, Persian-style rugs, and favorite artwork as the main features. Remove or store extra small decorations, plants, papers, and temporary storage so the best furniture and architectural details stand out.
Room-by-Room Recommendations
Living Room
Keep the cream sofa and matching chairs, and arrange them around the fireplace so people can easily talk. Keep the round upholstered seat or ottoman and the basket near the fireplace. Leave enough open space to walk comfortably through the room. This will give the room a clear focal point while keeping its traditional style.
Keep the coffee table simple with three types of items: a decorative bowl or tray, one small flower arrangement, and two or three books. On the mantel, display the smaller landscape painting, the navy-and-gold Arabic calligraphy plate, two crystal flower vases, and four small frames. Keep the large dark wood armoire but clear the floor around it. Do not place folding tables or other items in front of it. The open space will help the armoire look like an important feature instead of part of a storage area.
Dining Room
Make the China cabinet the main focus of the room, with the crystal chandelier as the second key feature. Remove most of the small items from the outside of the cabinet. Keep only about two large plants near the cabinet or window. Remove the small open shelf beside the cabinet. If you need storage, replace it with a closed cabinet that matches the room’s traditional style.
Clear everything off the dining table. If the wood top is in good condition, leave it uncovered. Otherwise, use a warm ivory or cream tablecloth. Add one large traditional centerpiece. Keep the Persian-style rug because it ties the dark furniture to the rest of the room. Remove the office chair and any items stored on the table to make the room feel larger and more organized.
