What if the future of Chicago’s skyline was built from timber?

This 23-story Net Zero skyscraper explores how engineered wood technologies, including cross-laminated timber, can transform high-rise construction. Supported by a robust concrete foundation, the design combines structural performance with reduced carbon emissions, faster construction, and the natural warmth of wood.

A bold vision for a more sustainable, resilient urban future.

Here’s a caption focused on Scharly’s approach to public architecture:

The most meaningful architecture is often the architecture we share.

At Scharly Designer Studio, public projects are designed to strengthen communities, encourage connection, and create places that serve people for generations. Whether it’s a library, cultural space, educational facility, or civic landmark, every project begins with the belief that thoughtful design can enrich everyday life.

By combining sustainability, innovation, and human-centered planning, we create public spaces that are welcoming, resilient, and built with purpose—spaces where communities can learn, gather, and grow together.

Architecture has the power to shape how communities learn, gather, and grow.

The Staten Island Library was envisioned as more than a place to house books—it was designed as a civic destination where education, technology, sustainability, and community come together under one roof. Every space was planned to encourage discovery, collaboration, and connection across generations.

From flexible learning environments and digital innovation spaces to welcoming reading areas filled with natural light, the design reimagines what a modern public library can be. Sustainability is integrated throughout the project with Net Zero design principles, renewable energy systems, and resource-conscious strategies that reduce environmental impact while creating a healthier place for visitors.

The result is a library that serves not only as a center for knowledge, but as an investment in the future of the community—where architecture supports lifelong learning, creativity, and meaningful public engagement.

Great architecture doesn’t compete with its surroundings—it belongs to them.

Thoughtful design begins with context, creating spaces that feel timeless, intentional, and connected to the landscape.
