Construction update! 🏗️📐

GMS Architects (Gomez Mendez Saenz, Inc.) is excited to share this progress video from the Vanguard Academy Van Gogh campus in Pharr, TX, where work is actively underway on a new upper school building that will expand educational opportunities for the Van Gogh community.

Where things stand: site preparation is complete, the concrete slab is in, and steel framing is now rising from the ground. Watching a building take shape from the ground up never gets old and this one is going to be something truly special for Vanguard students and families. 🦅

A sincere thank you to Vanguard Academy and Dr. Marisol Rocha for the continued trust in GMS Architects as your design team. Thank you as well to PMSI for their representation and partnership on this project, and to our contractor, Gerlach Builders LLC, for the excellent work happening on the ground every day. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the growth of a school district that continues to invest boldly in its students and community.

Stay tuned more updates to come! 💛

Progress update! 🏟️⚾🥎

Construction is well underway at La Feria Early College High School, and the new Baseball and Softball Complex is taking shape beautifully. GMS Architects (Gomez Mendez Saenz, Inc.) is proud to serve as the Architect of Record on this important project, the very first on-campus baseball and softball complex in La Feria ISD history, made possible through the community’s support of the district’s recently approved bond.

What’s going up: two synthetic turf fields, a new concessions building with restrooms, dugouts, batting cages, a large backstop and netting system, bleachers, and full athletic sports lighting. When complete, La Feria Lions student athletes will no longer have to travel across town to practice, they’ll have a home-field facility worthy of their talent and dedication. 🦁

Thank you to Superintendent Cynthia A. Torres, Board President Jane Castillo, and the entire La Feria ISD Board of Trustees for their vision and investment in these student athletes. A big shoutout to our contractor, Scoggins Construction for their hard work on the ground every day. We are grateful to play even a small role in adding meaningful community infrastructure right here in La Feria. Stay tuned, this one is almost done. 💛🤎

Before. The vision. After. 🏗️✨

This video tells a story we're incredibly proud of the transformation of the Point Isabel ISD Administration Complex into the Ruben M. & Maria Elida Torres Central Administration Building. Watch as we take you from the original structure, through our design renderings, and finally to the building as it stands today.

This project was unlike any other. Renovating existing conditions means confronting the unknown, and on this project, there were moments where what we uncovered behind the walls was not what we expected. Every surprise required a quick pivot, a creative solution, and a team fully committed to seeing it through. And then there was the vision of the Point Isabel leadership: bold, ambitious, and unwavering. They challenged us to rise to a higher standard, and we did.

The result is a 6,800 sq. ft. addition and a fully renovated complex that now stands as a reflection of everything Port Isabel represents, strength, community, and a deep commitment to those who come after us. To the Point Isabel ISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Teri Capistran, thank you for your trust, your vision, and the honor of being your architects. What grew from this project is a building worthy of the people it will serve for generations to come. 💙

Some places are best seen from above. 🚁🌊

This video captures the Bejarano-McFarland Memorial Park in all its beauty, nestled along the shores of the Lower Laguna Madre in Laguna Heights, one of the most scenic settings in all of Cameron County.

What you'll see from the air tells the full story: a park thoughtfully designed to blend the natural beauty of the bay with world-class amenities for families of every age and ability.

From the Universal Design splash pad and playground, to the covered basketball court, butterfly garden, picnic pavilion, native landscaping, solar-lit walking trails, and the boardwalk overlook extending over the Laguna Madre, every element was placed with purpose. And this is only Phase I. Phase II improvements and the future Laguna Madre Nature Center are on the horizon, bringing the total park investment to an anticipated $8 million.

GMS Architects is honored to have played a part in this vision and to support the Cameron County Parks and Recreation Department, County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr., and the Cameron County Commissioners' Court in creating a destination that enriches this community for generations to come. This is what investing in people and place looks like. 💙

A building can be more than walls and a roof, it can be a tribute.

When GMS Architects set out to design the new home for VFW Post 2410 in Harlingen, we looked for inspiration worthy of the veterans it will serve. We found it in the iconic image of six Marines raising the flag at Iwo Jima, a moment that has come to embody sacrifice, brotherhood, and the quiet resolve of those who serve. That spirit shaped many lines of this design.

Harlingen has long carried a deep military tradition. From the legacy of Harlingen Army Air Field, which trained thousands of aerial gunners during World War II, to the generations of servicemen and women who have called the Rio Grande Valley home, this community understands what it means to serve. That culture lives on through organizations like Post 2410, veterans who continue to give back through scholarships, food drives, Toys for Tots, and countless other causes that strengthen the fabric of our community.

GMS Architects is honored to play a small role in shaping a space that will support those efforts for current and future generations. May this building stand as a monument to the community itself, a reminder of what is possible when neighbors come together to lift one another up.

To the veterans of Post 2410: Thank you! This one is for you.

05/11/2026

This morning, GMS Architects had the honor of attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the new VFW Post 2410 in the City of Harlingen TX, a milestone moment for our veteran community and the result of years of collaborative effort.

For decades, Post 2410 has stood as a cornerstone of service in Cameron County, with its members raising funds and giving back to countless community causes. Yet the post itself faced an uphill battle, as repeated flooding gradually compromised the integrity of its longtime home. Today's groundbreaking marks the beginning of a new chapter one made possible by the dedication of veterans, public officials, donors, and partners across the Rio Grande Valley.

We are proud to have contributed our architectural services to this just and noble cause, alongside so many others who answered the call. The selfless service of our veterans allows the citizens of this great nation to sleep soundly at night, and it is our privilege to give a small measure of that service back to them.

Congradulations VFW POST 2410 !!!

Special Thank you to Noble Texas Builders, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez, Office of Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. and Commissioner Gus Ruiz, Pct.4

God bless our veterans, and God bless America.
