This week we are looking at carbon! 🌱

Plants pull carbon from the air and move some of it into the soil through their roots. Keeping soil covered and feeding it organic matter can help support this process.

At the Agave Farm, we focus on feeding the soil and incorporating our chickens into the farm’s nutrient cycle! 🐓

So ask a farmer: “How do you get carbon into your soil?

New this Sunday at Hillcrest: our free-range chicken, now in leg packs and white meat packs! 🐓

Same birds, raised outdoors on The Agace Farm in Campo and butchered by the farmer himself. Now in a size that fits a weeknight dinner.

These aren’t supermarket chickens, they’ve lived and moved, so cook them low and slow, and the flavor pays you back.

Whole roasters still available. Everything is frozen, so ask at the booth!

We grow what we sell. Get yours tomorrow at Hillcrest Farmers Market, 9-2.

Not your grocery-store pomegranate. 🌱

This Sunday at Hillcrest: certified organic Parfianka pomegranates, picked this week at The Agave Farm in Campo!

The supermarket standard is wonderful: tart, woth hard, woody seeds. Parfianka is an heirloom from Tumerkistan with seeds so soft you just eat them, and it is sweet with a little tang instead of pucker.

First pick of the season, and there aren’t many! Tomorrow at Hillcrest Farmers Market, 9-2.

This week: Most of it is asleep! 🌿

Healthy soil is full of tiny living things, but they need food and water to become active. At the Agave Farm, we focus on feeding the soil, with our chickens helping provide fertilizer for the plants.

So ask a farmer: How do you wake up the soil?

This week: Roots trade! 🌱
Plants don’t just take from the soil, their roots interact with the tiny life around them, helping make nutrients available to the plant.

That is why we only use chicken manure and no chemical fertilizers in our crops!

So ask a farmer: “Does this plant trade for its food or get it poured on?”

This week, we’re talking about the top few inches. 🌱

Most of our food starts with a few inches of soil.

Topsoil takes hundreds of years to form, but it can be lost much faster through erosion.

So next time you talk to a farmer ask: What is holding down soil when it rains?

Dirt is dead. Soil is alive. 🌱

What looks like dirt is actually a living ecosystem, full of microogranisms that interact with plant roots and help cycle nutrients.

So don’t just ask, “Is this regenerative?”
Ask, “How do you know?”

Ask any farmer. 👨‍🌾

Something new is pouring at The Agave Farm! 🫒

We’re excited to introduce our new olive oils, starting with Roasted Garlic, Lemon, and Arbosana.

Our roasted Garlic and Lemon olive oils are made by processing the ingredients together with the olive oil, not just dipping them in like a tea bag. This creates a deeper flavor straight from the farm.

Come taste our newest oils! Available tomorrow at Hillcrest Farmers Market, 9-2

Fresh nopales coming to the farmers market this weekend! 🌵

We harvest young, tender pads from the same prickly pear cactus that gives us our tunas, and they come clean, de-spined and ready to cook just for you.

Find them as whole-pad bundles or diced nopalitos. Boil them for 10-12 minutes and rinse cold, or grill the whole pads until tender and lightly browned. One of our favorite ways to eat them is nopales con huevo 🥚

They’re also naturally light and nutrient-rich! About 16 calories per cup cooked, with fiber, calcium, mangessium, potassium, and vitamin C.

Find us tomorrow at Hillcrest Farmers Market from 9-2 to get your ready to cook nopales!
