This is one of my favorite questions because there's no single right answer - and that's actually good news.
Start with light. How much natural light does the room get, and at what time of day? A sheer linen lets light filter through beautifully in a bright room but looks flat in a north-facing space. A heavier woven fabric in that same north-facing room creates warmth and depth that the light alone can't give you.
Then think about the room's mood. Is it a place to focus - a home office, a dining room where you want to feel grounded? Or somewhere to decompress - a bedroom, a reading nook? The fabric weight, texture, and pattern should all reinforce that feeling.
Finally, hold the fabric up in the actual space before you commit. Colors shift dramatically depending on the light and what's already in the room. What looks perfect on a sample card can be completely wrong on the window.
That's what I'm here for - to make sure you see it in context before you say yes.
