Good Seed Community Garden

Good Seed Community Garden A community organic garden project with more than 85 garden plots available to anyone interested. Plots will be assigned the week of March 25.

The Orchard, located at 110 Snowmass Drive, Carbondale announces its newest project, the expansion of its Good Seed Community Garden plan. The Good Seed Community Garden is located on the north side of The Orchard property and will feature 39 garden plots in 2 size; 4’ by 10’ and 4’ by 20’. The annual cost for a small plot is $25 and $40 for the large plot. Garden plots will be assigned through a lottery from interested gardeners that have completed an application. The Good Seed Community Garden will be unique in that gardeners will be given the opportunity to contribute 10% of their produce to those in need through either Lift-Up or Feed My Sheep. Debi Boyle, the Carbondale food pantry coordinator from Lift-up said, “This is a great need because the Lift-Up program can’t supply fresh produce for a balanced diet. We would love it!”

The Good Seed Community Garden recently received a generous grant from the Harvey Family Foundation and is also partnering with local businesses to provide discounts for gardeners to purchase items like seed and tools. The garden has already received generous donations of compost, fertilizer, sand and services to ready the land for planting. The garden is looking for donations of materials to build fencing , raised beds as well as pipe for the irrigation system.

Estimados jardineros:

Dear Gardeners,

Thank you for everything you have put into Good Seed Community Garden! As we wrap up the garden for good, here are the key dates to keep in mind.

This Weekend Work Days, Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25
Your help is needed! We will be working both days to consolidate community property, such as wheelbarrows, useful wood, tools, chairs, tables, and similar items. We hope to re-use this in our next garden, these are not currently up for grabs. Help us outfit our next Garden by helping out today.

Please also:
- Empty your own garden bed however you prefer. There is no need to clean up your garden, just remove the things you want to keep.
- If you would like to keep your gardens’ wood frame, please remove by October 28

- Feel free to take community plants, such as the iris and other plants in the garden rows.

Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31
Friends Gleaning Days - Please invite your friends in to glean whatever perennials and materials they can from the garden.

Saturday, October 31: Final Day
- we can use a few volunteers to remove the last of the items we wish to save
-Please have everything you personally want to keep removed from the garden by this date.
- The general public will be invited in on November 1st to take any plants / materials they would like.

If you have questions or need help with anything before then, please let me know. Thank you again for being part of this community.

What an absolutely lovely time we had this afternoon! Excellent turnout, lots of lovely thoughts shared, great conversations, and lots of incredible pork! Thank you, Hunter and everyone else who made this evening happen.

And thank you to all the visionaries who created this garden and helped it exist for 15 years.

There’s lots of onions standing in the gardens right now, this is a great idea!

Good Seed Gardeners! It's that time to prepare to shut things down in the garden. Feel free to keep growing and harvesting this month, but get ready to move

The Orchard would like us to be done with our gardens by Nov 1st.

This message from Daniel Self, the Orchard pastor, provides guidance for us: "Whatever you want to preserve for your future garden, material and soil, needs to be taken off site with you. The Orchard cannot take responsibility for personal gardening items with the variables of construction and ground work ahead."

I know none of us have extra space - that's why we garden here - but this gives a little time for you to find a spot to store whatever you want to keep, until we can get a new garden space.

We will gather all the community items - tools, hoses, wheelbarrows, shade covers, plastic, etc near the shed so those can be preserved for us for our next garden. We are currently looking for a storage spot for some of the larger items like the wood frames and large trellis's and such.
