🐦✨ LOOK UP… THE HUMMINGBIRDS ARE ON THE MOVE! ✨🐦

One of the most incredible little migrations in nature is happening right now along the East Coast—and most people don’t even realize they’re witnessing it. 🌿💚

Those tiny flashes of emerald, ruby, and gold you see darting between flowers aren’t just visiting your garden…

They’re travelers.

Every year, hummingbirds make an extraordinary journey, following the changing seasons and the flowers that fuel their incredible flight. Some travel hundreds—even thousands—of miles, with a tiny body weighing less than a nickel carrying them across forests, coastlines, and open water. 🌎

And here’s the part that gets me…

✨ Your backyard could be one of their final fuel stops.

As temperatures change and natural food sources become harder to find, your garden can provide the nectar and shelter these tiny travelers need to continue their journey.

🌺 Keep those flowers blooming.
💧 Keep a clean hummingbird feeder available.
🌳 Give them places to rest and hide.
🐝 And avoid pesticides whenever possible.

Because that tiny hummingbird hovering in front of you isn’t just a beautiful visitor…

It may be passing through on an epic journey that began hundreds of miles away. ❤️

So the next time one stops by, take a moment.

Watch.

Listen.

And appreciate the fact that you’re witnessing one of nature’s most incredible migrations—right in your own backyard. 🐦✨

🍎🌳 DON’T WAIT UNTIL WINTER TO PROTECT YOUR FRUIT TREES! 🌳🍏

One of the simplest things you can do right now to help your fruit trees make it through winter stronger is also one of the easiest to overlook:

👉 Refresh the mulch around the base of your trees.

A proper layer of fresh organic mulch acts like a natural winter blanket—helping to:

❄️ Insulate the root system from dramatic temperature swings
💧 Hold moisture in the soil during dry winter periods
🌱 Protect delicate feeder roots near the soil surface
🌿 Improve soil health as the mulch slowly breaks down
🌡️ Buffer temperature fluctuations that can stress trees

But here’s the important part…

🚫 DON’T pile mulch against the trunk!

Keep the mulch pulled several inches away from the trunk and create a wide, even “donut” around the tree instead. Mulch touching the trunk can trap moisture and create an environment where rot, disease, and pests become a problem.

Think wide, not tall.
A few inches of quality mulch spread outward over the root zone is far more beneficial than a giant mound around the trunk.

🍎 Apple trees
🍑 Peach trees
🍐 Pear trees
🍒 Cherry trees
…and other fruit trees can all benefit from proper mulching.

🌳 A little preparation this fall can make a big difference when spring arrives.

If you have fruit trees, save this post for your fall garden checklist — and share it with someone who has an orchard or a few backyard fruit trees!

Healthy roots now = stronger growth later. 🌱

✨ Don’t Let Age, Gender, or “What People Will Think” Decide What You’re Capable Of. ✨

There will always be someone who thinks you’re too old, too young, too feminine, too masculine, too inexperienced, too different, or simply not supposed to do something.

Don’t listen.

Age is not a limitation.
Gender is not a limitation.
Social norms are not a limitation.
And other people’s opinions definitely don’t define your potential.

You are capable of learning.
You are capable of growing.
You are capable of trying something new—even if nobody around you has done it before.

Will you fail sometimes? Absolutely.
Will people question you? Probably.
Will it feel uncomfortable? Almost certainly.

Do it anyway.

Stop talking yourself out of the things you secretly want to try. Stop waiting until you feel “qualified.” Stop letting fear disguise itself as common sense.

You don’t need everyone’s permission.
You don’t need everyone’s approval.
You just need to believe that you’re capable enough to take the first step.

So whatever it is… go do it.
Break the stereotype. Challenge the expectation. Prove it to yourself.

Don’t doubt how capable you are.

Just. Do. It. 💪🔥

🌱 When’s the BEST time to pull weeds? Here’s a little gardening secret! 🌿

If you want those stubborn weeds to come out by the roots, pay attention to the weather! ☀️🌧️

💧 Right after a good rain = PRIME WEED-PULLING TIME!
Rain softens the soil, making it much easier to loosen the roots and pull weeds out without leaving half the root behind. In fact, extension experts recommend hand-weeding after a good rain or thorough watering. (University of Minnesota Extension)

☀️ But what if it’s been really dry?
Don’t worry—you can still make the job easier! Give the soil a deep watering and let the water soak in before you start pulling. If the ground is rock-hard, watering first is much better than fighting the soil (and your back! 😅).

🌿 A few quick tips:
✔️ W**d when the soil is moist—not soaking wet or muddy.
✔️ Grab weeds as close to the base as possible and pull slowly.
✔️ Try to get the entire root, especially with deep-rooted weeds.
✔️ Smaller weeds are much easier to remove before they have a chance to flower and spread seeds. (University of Minnesota Extension)
✔️ If it’s hot outside, tackle the garden in the cooler morning or evening hours.

Bottom line: 🌧️ Rain just happened? Grab your gloves! 🧤
Or if Mother Nature hasn’t delivered rain lately, water first, wait for the soil to soften, and then pull.

Your back will thank you—and your garden will look SO much better! 🌱✨

✂️🌸 STOP SCROLLING if you want HUGE iris blooms next spring 🌸✂️

Here’s the secret most gardeners miss 👇

If your irises gave you meh blooms or leafy plants with no flowers… it’s probably because they weren’t cut back at the right time.

👉 Why you MUST cut irises back:
• Old leaves harbor iris borers & fungal disease
• Energy stays trapped in dying foliage instead of feeding next year’s blooms
• Crowded, floppy leaves block airflow (hello rot 👀)

Cutting them back now tells the plant:
🔥 “Survive, store energy, and BLOOM BIG next spring.”

👉 WHEN to cut irises back:
⏰ Late summer to early fall
• After flowering is done
• When leaves start yellowing or spotting
• BEFORE the first hard frost

👉 HOW to cut for massive blooms:
✂️ Trim leaves into a fan shape, about 4–6 inches tall
🗑 Remove and trash diseased leaves (do NOT compost!)
🌞 This lets sun hit the rhizome so it can harden and store energy

🌱 Bonus tip most people don’t know:
If your irises are crowded, divide them now. Less competition = bigger, show-stopping blooms.

Do this one simple task and this spring your irises will look like they belong in a magazine 😍🌸
