Well, you all must have spoken it into existence! 😂 At 4 AM this morning, I received an email that our peony roots are ready to ship! Apparently all that peony excitement yesterday was just what the universe needed!

And the timing couldn’t be better! We’ve been watching the extended forecast, and it looks like we have some ideal peony planting weather headed our way! Those cooler days in the 60s are just what we like to see for getting roots established before winter. 🌱

It looks like we have about 20 roots still available from the extras we ordered! I’ll pin our ordering post with the available varieties, pricing, and all the details for anyone still wanting to snag a few at the top of our FB page.

I’ll also be touching base with anyone who has an outstanding order balance over the next few days so we can get everyone’s roots officially reserved and ready for arrival!

Now we just need that tracking number so we can start stalking the delivery truck! 😂

And I don’t think I’ve shared this number with you all yet, but we’ll be planting 420 new peony roots in our cut flower field this fall! 🤯 That’s 420 more plants that will eventually be producing locally grown peonies right here in southeast Kansas. It’s starting to feel real! 🌸

🌸 PEONY ROOT PRE-ORDER UPDATE! 🌸

We’re getting closer to peony planting season, so here’s a little update!

📦 Shipping Update: We haven’t received any changes to our original timeline from our Dutch grower. Our premium 3/5-eye peony roots are still expected to arrive in late October/early November, just in time for fall planting!

🌸 A quick reminder: If you’ve submitted a pre-order but haven’t paid yet, payment is what officially secures your roots!

And I may have gotten a little excited when placing our order and ordered a few extras crates! 🙈 So if you’ve been thinking about adding peonies to your garden, we should have enough for anyone who’s been waiting!

We’re offering FIVE beautiful varieties, ranging from soft whites and blush pinks to deep rosy pinks, including the stunning two-toned Bowl of Beauty! 🌸

Every order includes our Yale Road Flowers Peony Growing Guide, packed with everything we’ve learned about planting and caring for peonies.

These are the same premium Dutch roots we plant right here on our farm. We can’t wait to see them growing in your gardens! 💕

🙋‍♀️🙈 Do your peony plants look like THIS?!

Good news! You have our full permission to CHOP THOSE BABIES DOWN! ✂️🍂

If your peonies are looking brown, black, spotted, crispy, or just plain ugly, don’t panic! It’s completely normal for peony foliage to look pretty rough at the end of the growing season.

Here in Southeast Kansas, our hot, humid summers create ideal conditions for fungal diseases like peony leaf blotch (also called peony measles). Fortunately, this common foliage disease is generally cosmetic and doesn’t prevent established plants from producing beautiful blooms next spring! 🌸

Once the foliage has died back, it’s time for a little fall cleanup!

✂️ Cut stems down close to ground level.

🗑️ Remove and DESTROY all foliage and fallen debris! Bag it for disposal or burn where permitted. Don’t add diseased material to your home compost.

🍂 Remove old mulch containing infected debris from around the base, too!

Why? Fungal pathogens can overwinter on infected plant material and splash right back onto new growth next spring. Cleaning up now helps break that cycle!

And speaking of peonies… we’ve been getting LOTS of questions about peony roots lately! 👀🌸 Stay tuned, tomorrow we’ll have more details to share!

🥶 Looks like Jack Frost paid us a visit!

Saturday morning’s frost may not have been a hard freeze, but our zinnias are showing signs of damage.

Those brown, papery petals are likely frost damage, which can take 24–48 hours to fully appear. Even when air temperatures stay just above freezing, flower surfaces can get cold enough to suffer damage.

While some blooms and buds may hang on a little longer, we’re taking this as Mother Nature’s sign that it’s time to start putting our outdoor flower fields to bed for the season. 🍂🌸

Well, something pretty fun happened while we weren’t looking… we passed 1,000 followers! 🌻

With so many new faces around here, we figured we were probably overdue for an introduction. So, hi! I’m Brenna, and this is Darin, better known around here as Mr. Yale Road Flowers. 😊

And honestly, this may be the most accurate photo we could possibly use to introduce ourselves.

We were getting ready to transform our old wagon for fall when our 3 year old yelled “Say cheese!” So we did. He took the picture himself, fingers and all. 😂

If you’re new here, one thing we’re incredibly proud of is that every flower we sell is grown right here on our farm in Southeast Kansas. We start the seeds, plant the roots and bulbs, tend the plants, harvest the stems, and turn them into the bouquets you take home.

That’s what means to us. 🌱💐

We joke that we’ve probably killed more plants than we’ve actually grown 💀 What started as growing flowers has turned into something our whole family is part of. We have five boys ranging from 3 to 20, while some are a little more enthusiastic about flower farming than others. 💙 Yale Road Flowers has definitely become a family affair and you can usually find us tootling around the farm with at least one boy in tow.

Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or you’re one of our newest followers, thank you for being here, supporting our family, and choosing flowers grown right here at home. ❤️

We’re glad you’re here!
