Lately I've been thinking about how much we've lost simply because we stopped needing to know how to do certain things. Our grandparents knew how to make things. They cooked from scratch, grew food, repaired what they had. I'm not trying to turn back the clock here. But the older I get, the more I appreciate knowing how to do things myself. There's a satisfaction in making something with your own hands, like soap or a meal or fixing something instead of replacing it. Maybe that's why some old-fashioned skills are worth remembering. I wrote a little more about it today. What's one old-fashioned skill you wish you knew how to do or something you do know how to do that you'd hate to see forgotten. My grandmother taught me...well, tried to teach me how to tat. I never figured it out, but one of these days I'm going to learn!
