Eight years of MAREDI Design, and a few things we’ve somehow never told you.
Our anniversary tradition is back: a little of our story, a few things beyond the interiors, and something we’re especially excited to share.

1. It started in Paris.
Before there was MAREDI Design, there were Marc and Dijana, meeting in Paris. The beginning of our story together and, eventually, this business.
2. There’s a bigger movement behind our work.
MAREDI Design is a Partner of the New European Bauhaus, joining a European community working toward more beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive places to live.
3. Marc’s other great passion has two wheels.
When he’s not immersed in a design project, Marc is an avid cyclist. No challenge is too big: over 60 miles from Chicago to Wisconsin? No problem. A casual 40 kilometers to have the best pain au chocolat in France ? Mais, bien sûr.
4. Three languages, and counting.
Dijana speaks English, Serbian, and French, has dabbled in Portuguese, and is now learning Italian. Apparently, three languages weren’t quite enough.
5. Next year, we’re opening a new door. Literally.
Loire Design Lab will officially open its doors next year! We’re so excited to share this next chapter of MAREDI Design with you. Stay tuned for more!

A kitchen with a complicated past and now, a much more generous future.

We are beyond honored to share that this Milwaukee kitchen renovation has been featured in Apartment Therapy

What began as a pieced-together kitchen and former screened porch became a hardworking, light-filled space for cooking, coffee, gathering, and everyday life, without meaningfully expanding the footprint. Inspired in part by Julia Child’s famously practical pegboard system (click through the images to see what we mean), we created a kitchen that honors the home’s history while working beautifully for modern-day living.

Thank you to Danielle Blundell for so thoughtfully capturing the spirit, quirks, and many layers of this project. It was a wonderful collaborative experience.

And thank you to The PR Collaborative Alex Abramian and Liz Cromp for your constant support and guidance, and to the extraordinary Jamie Kelter Davis for capturing the story of this space through images.

Before it becomes beautiful.

The most important part of a renovation often happens before there is anything polished to photograph.

During deconstruction (sometimes demolition), a space starts telling the truth: where the light actually falls, what is hidden behind the walls, which layouts no longer work, and what deserves to be saved (and not everything always does)!

This is the stage where we can make the decisions that shape how a home will feel every day, and not just how it will look when it is finished.

Better flow. More useful storage. Healthy materials chosen with intention. Space for the way life really happens (hello functional and versatile solutions).

The dust, the exposed framing, the unanswered questions are all part of building something lasting.

The details that make us slow down and look closer, like an unexpected textile, the quiet precision of a stone edge, an opening taking shape, an art stall on a Paris walk, the endless possibility of a wall of hardware.

September moved between works in progress, objects and places that caught our attention, and a little room to pause in between.

Three countries, one summer, endless dusty treasure. 🇫🇷🇮🇹🇷🇸

This summer took us through flea markets and antique halls across France, Italy, and Serbia because the best pieces aren’t found online, they’re found in person, covered in dust, usually in a town you’ve never heard of.

Every trip is also a hunt for our clients. If a piece could anchor a room, a project, a client’s whole vibe, we bring it home.

We’re always sourcing. Always looking for the next project too.

As healthy as it is beautiful — that’s not a tagline, it’s how we design.

Every material we choose starts with a question most people never ask in a design conversation: what is this actually made of, and what does it release into the air you breathe every day? Natural stone, mineral paint, organic textiles, solid wood, zero-VOC finishes, some of the things that we love not only for how they look, but also for what they don’t put into your home.

Beauty and wellness aren’t separate decisions at MAREDI Design; they’re the same decision, made twice as carefully. As a studio working across France, the US, and beyond, we bring a multicultural lens to sourcing: the best material for your health and your space isn’t always the local default, and we go looking for it.

From flea markets in France leading to a roadtrip through the Alps, Italy, Serbia, and home through Munich, August was full of objects, interiors, architecture, long roads, and artisans and craftsmen making things with their hands.
The moments we keep returning to: kilims unfolding across a floor, shelves of local, handmade pottery, and the happy chaos of a good market.
Where would you have spent the most time: the kilim palace, the pottery atelier, or the flea markets of France and Italy?
