I don't normally post about things like this on my business page (with the exception of yesterday because I was pi**ed), but this is something I feel strongly about, both as a bride and a small business owner.
Loft 21 canceled my May 1, 2027 wedding after a pipe burst at their venue. They've now pushed their reopening to August 2027, leaving us and other couples scrambling to find new venues.
What's even more frustrating is the situation with our deposits. Loft 21 is claiming force majeure and telling customers they don't have the money to issue refunds.
As a small business owner myself, I can't imagine telling my customers that I can't provide the service they paid for, but also can't give them their money back.
I understand that unexpected things happen when you own a business. But how you handle those situations says a lot about your values.
I don't require deposits at AM Print Lab, but if I ever found myself in a situation where I couldn't fulfill an order, I would do everything I could to make things right for my customer.
What bothers me most is that Loft 21 is planning to reopen and continue booking future events while current customers are left without their weddings or their money.
Running a business isn't just about making money. It's about taking responsibility, treating people fairly, and doing the right thing, even when it costs you.
Because at the end of the day, your customers are the reason you have a business in the first place.
And I think every business owner should remember that.
