this client wanted her donations to stay in the community of Oroville Ca, and we brought the majority of the donations to Bird Street Thrift, an excellent thrift shop that benefits the local rescue mission. gamifying decluttering is perfect for anyone but especially adhd folks who benefit from a dopamine boost from otherwise dull activities. there are so many ways to do this but here’s one way to start simple:

count how many items you’re tossing or donating every single time you do. if it’s a lot, just count how many bags or boxes are going OUT of your house. mark this number in your calendar, in your phone, wherever you can keep track.

pick a number, like say 10. when you reach that number, you’ve earned a little treat. the rules of this game are ultimately up to you but make sure your treat isn’t just more clutter coming into your home. do something nice for you that you’ll feel good about and won’t get arrested for 😇

now rinse and repeat! if you want to up the ante with yourself, go bigger with high numbers and bigger treats. this process can take a while but if you make it fun, you’re more likely to stick with it.

kid’s aren’t naturally organized. in fact, they’re kinda messy. this client didn’t need perfect, pinterest worthy results. they just needed functionality and progress.

this kiddo is crafty, creative and intelligent. she has lots of hobbies and things she does for fun. she just needs the tools and system to get organized and stay organized.

here’s our plan: 2 hour sessions to tackle the project in small chunks + a session with the kiddo herself to talk about some new agreements on how to keep their space not only organized but more fun because she’ll then know how to access everything she needs to be her artistic self 💅

getting organized doesn’t have to be a huge investment up front. small doses can be easier on the budget, more realistic and more efficient in the long run. baby steps can lead to big accomplishments and lifelong changes. and we’re here to help.
