🚪 YOUR FRONT DOOR DESERVES A WINGMAN!

Fall weather in Cincinnati is something else. One day we're enjoying a beautiful breeze, and the next we're reaching for a jacket! 🍂

But here's something homeowners sometimes overlook: a great storm door can make your entryway more versatile.

At Windows Plus, we offer two fantastic options from ProVia!

🌟 ProVia Spectrum
Want fresh air without constantly switching between glass and screens? The Spectrum features ProVia's innovative InVent™ retractable screen system, giving you convenient ventilation options while keeping that beautiful entryway appearance.

🏡 ProVia Deluxe
Looking for a beautiful, durable storm door with plenty of style options? The Deluxe series offers a variety of glass and screen configurations, attractive finishes, and dependable everyday functionality.

Both can add another layer of weather protection while allowing you to enjoy more natural light and fresh air when conditions are right.

And let's not forget curb appeal. Sometimes that finishing touch on your front entrance makes all the difference!

NOW I'M CURIOUS...

Which would you prefer?

👍 Spectrum: Give me the convenience of retractable screens!

❤️ Deluxe: Give me classic style and functionality!

Or are you someone who doesn't have a storm door at all?

You know that gut-wrenching feeling when gas was $3.99 yesterday… and today it’s $4.29? 😩

And all you can think is:

“I should’ve filled up yesterday.”

Home improvement can feel the exact same way.

If you’ve been thinking about replacing your windows or doors, waiting doesn’t usually make the project cheaper. Material costs change. Labor costs change. And that window or door that’s already giving you problems probably isn’t going to fix itself.

I’ve talked with plenty of homeowners who wish they would’ve done the project when they first started thinking about it.

Don’t let today’s “maybe later” become tomorrow’s “I should’ve done it then.”

If windows or doors are on your radar, reach out to me. I’d be happy to come out, take a look, go over the options, and give you some numbers so you at least know what you’re looking at.

🍂 BEFORE YOU BLAME THE TREES… LOOK UP.

Fall is getting closer, which means pretty soon your driveway and yard will be covered with leaves.
But if you notice little black, gray, or sand-like granules collecting near your downspouts, those probably didn’t come from a tree.

They can come from your asphalt shingles.

Now, finding some granules doesn’t automatically mean your roof needs replaced. Asphalt shingles naturally lose some granules over time, and newer roofs can also shed some loose material.

What matters is how much you’re seeing and whether it seems to be increasing.

So here’s this week’s Jim’s Home Front challenge:
Next time you walk outside, take 10 seconds and check the ground underneath one of your downspouts.

🍁 Leaves? Normal.

🖤 A noticeable pile of gritty material? That may be worth keeping an eye on.

Anybody ever noticed this around their house and wondered what it was? 👇

🏠 HOMEOWNER TAKEAWAY: You don’t have to climb onto your roof to start paying attention to its condition. Your gutters and downspouts can sometimes give you clues about what’s happening with the shingles above.

🚪 THE FRONT DOOR GROCERY TEST

You know the move.

Two grocery bags on one arm.
A case of water in the other.
Keys somehow buried in the wrong pocket.

And suddenly the front door you use every single day becomes an obstacle course. 😂

But here’s a little homeowner thought for today:

When was the last time you actually paid attention to how your front door operates?

A good entry door shouldn’t require a shoulder bump, hip check, hard pull, or “hang on kids, Dad’s fighting the door again.”

If yours sticks, drags, rattles, feels drafty around the edges, or requires a little “special technique” that everyone in the family has learned… that’s worth noticing.

Sometimes we get so accustomed to little problems around the house that we stop realizing they’re problems.

👇 YOUR TURN: Does your front door have a “special trick” you have to do to get it to close or lock properly?

YES 😂 or NO 👍

🏠 HOMEOWNER TAKEAWAY:
Open and close your main entry door slowly sometime today. Look for rubbing, sticking, excessive movement, daylight around the perimeter, or a lock that only works when you push or pull on the door. Small changes can be early clues that something needs adjustment.

🪨 “I JUST WANT TO CHANGE ONE LITTLE THING…”

Famous last words of a homeowner. 😂

You walk outside, look at the front of the house and think…

"It looks fine. It just needs a little something."

Then somebody shows you what a little Versetta Stone around the entry or garage could look like.

Suddenly you're standing in the driveway staring at your house thinking:

“Okay… THAT changes everything.” 😂

That's what I like about using stone as an accent. You don't necessarily have to change the entire exterior to give a home more character.

Versetta Stone can be used strategically around an entry, garage, lower portion of the home, or other architectural areas to introduce texture and dimension without overwhelming the house.

Sometimes the best exterior transformations aren't about doing MORE.

They're about putting the right material in the right place.

🏠 TODAY'S QUESTION:

If you could add Versetta Stone to ONE area of your home, where would you put it?

👍 Front Entry
❤️ Around the Garage
😮 Lower Front of the House
💬 Somewhere Else — Tell Me Where!

HOMEOWNER TAKEAWAY:
Before changing an entire exterior, think about accent areas. Adding another texture or material in the right location can completely change how the architecture of a home feels.

🌧️ THE MOST UNDERRATED PART OF YOUR HOME?

Your gutters probably don't get much attention—until they stop doing their job.

A properly working gutter system has one very important mission:

Get water AWAY from your home.

During a heavy Cincinnati downpour, hundreds of gallons of water can run off a roof. Your gutters collect that water and your downspouts direct it away from the areas where you don't want it.

When that system isn't working properly, you may start noticing:

🌧️ Water overflowing the gutters
🏡 Water collecting near the foundation
🟢 Algae or staining on the siding
🌿 Mulch and landscaping washing away
💧 Water spilling over entrances and walkways

That's why something as simple as checking your gutters occasionally can make a big difference.

Today's Homeowner Takeaway:

The next time it rains, take 60 seconds and watch your gutters from the ground. Water should flow into the gutters, through the downspouts, and discharge away from your home—not pour over the sides.

Sometimes the parts of your home you notice the least are doing some of the most important work.

🏡 SATURDAY MYTH vs. FACT

❌ MYTH: “Vinyl siding is basically maintenance-free, so once it’s installed, you never need to look at it again.”

✅ FACT: Vinyl siding is low maintenance, but your exterior still deserves a quick inspection from time to time.

Take a walk around the house and look for loose or damaged panels, areas where landscaping is rubbing against the siding, buildup that needs cleaning, and places around windows, doors, or penetrations where something just doesn’t look right.

Here’s today’s 60-Second Siding Challenge:

Walk around ONE side of your house and really look at the siding. You might be surprised how many little things you never notice from the driveway.

And remember: low maintenance doesn’t mean no maintenance.

🏠 Homeowner Takeaway:

A quick exterior inspection a few times throughout the year can help you catch small siding issues before they become bigger problems.

🏡 Jim's Home Front – Friday Transformation

Sometimes the biggest change to a home isn't adding something new...

It's replacing what's worn out.

Fresh siding can completely transform the look of a home while helping protect it from the weather for years to come. It's one of those upgrades that neighbors notice immediately, but homeowners appreciate every single day.

✨ A refreshed exterior can make your home feel newer, cleaner, and more inviting without changing its character.

💬 Today's Conversation:

If you could update ONE thing on your home's exterior this year, what would it be?

👍 New Siding
❤️ New Windows
🤗 New Front Door
😮 New Roof

Tell us what you'd choose and why!

🏠 Homeowner Takeaway

New siding is about more than curb appeal. It helps protect your home from moisture and the elements while reducing maintenance and giving your home a fresh, updated appearance.

🏡 Jim's Home Front – Thursday DIY Tip

🧽 A Little Cleaning Can Go a Long Way

Did you know that your siding doesn't usually need harsh chemicals or a pressure washer to stay looking great?

For routine maintenance:

🪣 Mix mild dish soap with warm water.
🧽 Use a soft-bristle brush or microfiber cloth.
🚿 Rinse thoroughly with a regular garden hose.

🌿 While you're cleaning, take a quick look for loose panels, cracks, or spots where shrubs and vines may be trapping moisture against the siding.
A simple once- or twice-a-year cleaning can help keep your home's exterior looking fresh while giving you a chance to spot small issues before they become bigger ones.

💬 Today's Question:

How often do you wash the outside of your home?

👍 Every year
❤️ Every few years
🤗 Only when it looks dirty
😮 Honestly... never!
Tell us in the comments!

🏠 Homeowner Takeaway

Routine cleaning isn't just about appearance—it also gives you an opportunity to inspect your siding for signs of wear or storm damage. Always follow the siding manufacturer's care recommendations, and avoid using excessive pressure that could damage certain siding materials.
