Dreaming of some shady respite during this heatwave? You're not alone! We've tripled the amount of shade-tolerant native plants we carry for this year's Fall Sale! Plants like the beautiful Hummingbird Sage (Salvia spathacea), or our scrumptious native strawberries (Fragaria vesca). Add some fall color with Baja Pitcher Sage (Lepechinia hastata), or the local Claremont Pink-Flowering Currant (Ribes sanguineum var. glutinosum 'Claremont').

Better yet, create your own shade by planting one of California's iconic trees, such as Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia), Western Redbud (Cercis occidentalis), Incense Cedar (Calocedrus decurrens), or Blue Elderberry (Sambucus mexicana). All these and more will be available for purchase during our opening sale, October 10th and 11th. Until then, stay safe and cool!

We're back with another sneak peek at some of the cool California native plants our Production Nursery has been hard at work growing for this upcoming Fall Sale on October 10th & 11th!

Here, Nursery Coordinator Riley Holmes, talks about one of trees that will be available, Neltuma odorata, AKA Western Honey Mesquite! Recently renamed from Prosopis glandulosa, this small tree/large shrub grows up to 20 feet, supports significant amounts of wildlife, and has many traditional ecological uses. It works great in dry Southern California gardens, and is wonderfully showy in summer.

Keep an eye out for more behind the scenes action as we get closer to our opening date!

Analisa from our wonderful Production Nursery is giving a sneak peek at her some of her favorite plants that will be available for the Fall Sale on October 10th and 11th. This year, the team has been growing not just the fan favorite Dendromecon harfordii but also the local species, Dendromecon rigida!

We can't wait to bring you these plants along with many others when we reopen! We hope you'll join us!

For our final "Guess that Seed," we bring you a fan favorite! Can you guess the wildflower that produces this seed?

Hint: This cheerful white and yellow wildflower often requires a healthy fall rain (fingers crossed this might be a good year), acts as a bullseye for flying insects to locate pollen, and its species name is Greek for "wide, flat tongue."

Did you get it? Let us know! This wildflower species, along with many others will be available at our upcoming Fall Sale, October 10th & 11th. Stay tuned for the full seed list to be announced soon!

Thank you to our awesome Nursery Assistant Israel Ulloa for the beautiful illustrations.

This CA Biodiversity week, make your own backyard, patio, or balcony a biodiversity haven! The foundation for attracting and supporting any wildlife starts with ensuring a good habitat. The plants you choose to put in your gardens and backyards make all the difference. Planting regionally appropriate native plants helps support the most biodiversity by providing food, habitat, safety, and breeding sites for pollinators, birds, and more.

Plant out your wildlife haven this fall by attending Grow Native Nursery's upcoming Fall Plant Sale on October 10th & 11th, 2026, where we will have hundreds of native plant species available for purchase along with expert advice, plant guides, and books such as "The California Wildlife Habitat Guide" available.

We're back with part 2 of "Guess that seed!" This lovely wildflower will also be available for purchase at this year's Fall Sale on October 10th & 11th. Want a hint? It has flowers that are a true blue color, grows throughout a wide range from Alaska down to parts of Mexico, blooms later than most wildflowers, and is named in part after the Lewis & Clark expedition.

Swipe right to reveal the plant these seeds produce! Let us know in the comments if you got it right. Illustrations by our Nursery Sales Assistant, Israel Ulloa.
