Let me tell you about Mozelle, Kentucky…
It's a small community of about 400 people in Leslie County, tucked into the mountains of eastern Kentucky. The median household income is around $25,500. When devastating floods swept through eastern Kentucky in July 2022, Leslie County was among the hardest hit areas, and hundreds of homes were damaged or destroyed. Years later, many families are still living in those damaged homes because repairs are simply out of reach financially.
And like so much of Appalachia, these mountain communities have also carried the heavy weight of the substance abuse crisis.
This is why we're going….
November 11-15, our Eagles Nest Recovery team and Mission 54, Inc. are heading to Mozelle to help repair homes for elderly, disabled, and financially vulnerable neighbors, and to bring recovery support and hope to families who don't often see either.
