Happy Monday, everyone! We’re kicking off the week with an electrical safety tip that could help protect your home and family!

Did you know that plugging too many devices into one outlet can create a serious fire hazard? 🔥

⚡ Here are a few things to watch for:

🚨 Outlets or plugs that feel warm or hot

🚨 Flickering lights when appliances are running

🚨 Breakers that trip frequently

🚨 Extension cords or power strips being used for major appliances

💡 SAFETY TIP: Never plug space heaters into power strips or extension cords. Always plug them directly into a properly rated wall outlet!

⚡ MOATS ELECTRIC FAQ: DO I NEED AN ELECTRICIAN TO INSTALL A CEILING FAN? ⚡

It may seem like a simple DIY project, but there’s more to installing a ceiling fan than just connecting a few wires!

💡 One of the biggest things to consider is the electrical box.

A ceiling fan is heavier and creates movement and vibration, so the box and its support need to be properly rated for ceiling-fan use. A box that was only intended to support a light fixture may not be appropriate for a fan.

There are also wiring, grounding, controls, and electrical-code requirements to consider. Having a qualified electrician handle the installation helps make sure the fan is properly supported, wired correctly, and installed safely.

⚠️ And if you’re replacing a light fixture with a ceiling fan, don’t assume the existing box is fan-rated just because there was already a fixture there!

So, do you need an electrician? While some homeowners may be able to perform certain electrical work where local rules allow, if you’re unsure about the wiring or whether the existing box and support are suitable, calling a qualified electrician is the safest choice.

Let’s talk about your electrical panel.

When was the last time you had your electrical panel inspected and maintained? If your answer is “I have no idea” — you’re definitely not alone!

Over time, electrical terminations and connections can loosen. A loose connection can create excessive heat, which may lead to nuisance tripping, damaged components, and potentially serious electrical hazards.

🔧 That’s why Moats Electric offers a $175 Panel Maintenance Service.

I will come out and inspect and clean the panel and check/re-torque applicable connections to proper specifications, while also looking for signs of overheating, damage, corrosion, or other concerns that may need attention.
