Headwaters Master Gardeners

Headwaters Master Gardeners HMGA is a nonprofit volunteer organization composed of Extension Master Gardeners from NE Georgia.

Headwaters Master Gardeners is a nonprofit volunteer organization whose membership is composed of master gardeners from Habersham, Rabun and White Counties. They are trained in horticulture and related areas, and work under the direction of the University of Georgia Extension Service. Their mission is to educate others through horticultural programs and projects that benefit the community. Georgia Master Gardener Extension Volunteers bring the latest horticultural information and practices from the world of research to their communities’ landscapes and gardens.

See! Being a Master Gardener is not all studying and working. Headwaters Master Gardeners and guests enjoyed a “Lunch and Learn” at North Georgia Tech last Thursday. We enjoyed a delicious lunch, served by the NGTS cafeteria staff. Then we were totally entertained and educated by Kathy Church of the Ga DNR and Smithgall Woods. Her monologue and antics regarding “do I want THAT in my garden?” had us nearly rolling in the floor. Then tons of door prizes were given away to participants.
If you live in Rabun, White or Habersham Counties, contact your extension agent about taking the MG classes so you can join the fun!!

Yesterday the TWO of us (Holly Sparrow & Beth Suggs) worked hard on the Fall cleanup at the Clarkesville Library Children’s Garden. It looks so much better now.

Wow! What a great “Greenhouse Opening Day” we had today.
The weather was perfect, we had about 20-30 Master Gardeners and Interns in attendance and all of the Victory Home gentlemen, counselors and director came over to help. We started out with a planning meeting, presented our annual fundraising check to Victory Home and had a cake & ice cream party. Then we got to work organizing pots, pulling weeds from existing potted plants and organizing plants left over from last year. By next May this empty greenhouse & surrounding grounds will be home to over 6000 plants for sale!
If you live in Habersham, Rabun or White Counties and think you would enjoy working with plants, making an impact in our communities and being a Headwaters Master Gardener, please consider joining the Master Gardener program through your county extension office.
