Well, as promised, David is keeping tabs on things at the old Clinton Hardware building.

Of course, there is a small catch…

They actually have to let him inside first. 😂😂

David has apparently decided that retirement does NOT include giving up his position as Clinton Hardware's unofficial building inspector, neighborhood snoop and Director of “What’s Going On In There?” 🤣

As of today, all utilities have officially been transferred to the new owners, and work has officially started!

The fence is down, the bushes have been trimmed back, and today they took down the LAST PIECE OF CLINTON HARDWARE — our 75th Anniversary signs. ❤️

Thankfully, they were given to David, so another piece of Clinton Hardware came home with him today.

Now for the question everyone keeps asking…

WHAT’S GOING IN THERE?! 🤔

We STILL don’t know!

The new owners are currently in discussions with several businesses, so there are definitely things happening behind those doors.

And you can bet your bottom dollar that if David catches wind of anything, Clinton will be the first to know! 😂

He may be retired…
but apparently his concern for the Clinton community is still going strong.

Stay tuned — David will keep snooping as long as they’ll let him! 👀🔨❤️

FIRST STOP IN RETIREMENT! 🎉💍

David’s retirement is officially underway, and what better way to start than celebrating his oldest son getting married last weekend! ❤️

Well… that’s a wrap. ❤️🔨

Clinton Hardware is officially closed, and David’s long, winding, sometimes exhausting, sometimes hilarious road to retirement has finally come to an end.

Over the past several months, we’ve shared stories about customers, employees, vendors, friends, family, and all the little moments that made Clinton Hardware so much more than just a hardware store.

We’ve told stories about only a VERY small percentage of people who truly meant the world to us and helped make Clinton Hardware what it was. There are literally thousands of stories we could have told… and probably a few we shouldn’t have told! 😂

We shared David’s messages and thoughts as he took each step toward that final closing of the doors. We shared the staff happenings, the laughs, the craziness, the tears, and all those little behind-the-scenes moments that usually stayed between us.

And through it all, YOU came along for the ride.

From the bottom of our little tool cabinet hearts, THANK YOU. ❤️

Thank you for reading, laughing with us, reminiscing with us, sharing your own memories, and reminding us over and over again just how special Clinton Hardware was.

Now we’re going to take a short Facebook break. We need a little time to let this past year sink in, catch our breath, wipe the dust off, figure out what retirement actually looks like, and start writing the next chapters of our lives.

But don’t worry…

WE’LL BE BACK! 😉

In a few weeks, we’ll have some exciting announcements about:

🔨 Screen repairs
🔑 Key cutting
🦵 And, of course, the burning question everyone wants answered…

Did Dad ever get around to fixing that knee of his?! 😂

Until then, thank you for being part of the Clinton Hardware family.

The doors may be closed, but the memories, friendships, laughs, and stories will be with us forever

Clinton Hardware may have been a building… but YOU were what made it everyone's favorite local hardware store ❤️

❤️ David’s Final Farewell ❤️

As David says his final farewell to Clinton Hardware, there’s really only one thing left to say…

THANK YOU.

Thank you to every customer, friend, neighbor, and community member who supported us—not just during our closing, but throughout all the years.

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives for 80 years.
