A beautiful retreat, designed for everyday living.

For this primary suite transformation in Sparks, Maryland, our team turned an awkward layout into a beautifully connected, thoughtfully designed space that feels like a personal sanctuary.

From transforming an underutilized balcony into a connecting vestibule to creating custom closet cabinetry and a stunning new primary bathroom, every detail was designed with comfort, functionality, and timeless style in mind.

Soft blue hues, a statement double vanity with a dedicated makeup area, and carefully curated finishes bring a sense of calm and sophistication to this gorgeous transformation.

Another beautiful example of how thoughtful design can completely change the way you experience your home.

Another Garden Glow in the books, and once again, JP brought a little extra magic to the pumpkins! 🎃✨

For nearly a decade, JP has been a featured pumpkin carving artist at Ladew Topiary Gardens’ Garden Glow, transforming ordinary pumpkins into extraordinary works of art. His creativity, attention to detail, and ability to bring just about anything to life with a few carving tools never cease to amaze us!

We were proud to support this year's event as a Gold Sponsor, but even prouder to celebrate JP and the incredible talent he shares with our community year after year.

A big thank you to the team at Ladew for another fantastic event, and to everyone who stopped by to watch JP work his magic!

A piece of history, right in Glenwood.

This whole-home renovation gave us the opportunity to thoughtfully reimagine a mid-1700s home in Western Howard County for the way its owners live today, without losing the character that made the home special in the first place.

Carefully scaled additions created a larger, light-filled kitchen and entertaining space. An original fireplace was transformed into a two-sided feature connecting the kitchen and dining room. And upstairs, a smarter reconfiguration created an entirely new primary bath without adding a single square foot.

It’s the kind of project we love: respecting what’s already there while finding thoughtful ways to make an older home work beautifully for today.

Take a look at this Glenwood transformation, and if you’re considering renovating a home in Glenwood or Western Howard County, we’d love to start a conversation.

If you could add ONE must-have to your dream home, what would it be?

We asked the Smithouse team that question, and, as you might expect from a group of designers, builders and people who spend their days creating beautiful homes, the answers were all over the map.

A screened porch for enjoying more of Baltimore’s seasons. A light-filled sunroom. An outdoor kitchen. A personal wellness retreat. Smart technology to protect the home from water damage. And, of course, a two-story reef tank that requires a diver to clean it.

Some practical. Some indulgent. Some we definitely didn’t see coming.

See what made the Smithouse team’s dream-home wish lists, and then tell us: What’s the one feature your dream home absolutely has to have?

13 years. Countless projects. And a lot of clients who have become friends along the way.

This month’s Meet the Team spotlight features Site Supervisor Mike Cox, who has been part of Smithouse almost from the beginning.

For Mike, a successful renovation is about much more than delivering a beautiful finished space. It’s about listening to clients, earning their trust, navigating the inevitable challenges, and making the months spent together during construction a positive part of the experience.

As Mike puts it, “When I leave the project and we can still be considered friends, that for me holds the most value.”

In our latest 7 Questions feature, Mike talks about his years with Smithouse, what makes a remodeling experience exceptional, the importance of being an advocate for the client, and what happens when the Cox family gets competitive on two wheels. 🚴
