Three years of planning, collaboration, and design—all focused on improving the traveler experience.

From 2022 through its completion, our team provided interior architecture services (in conjunction with Mead and Hunt) for a major renovation at Columbia Metropolitan Airport, which provided expansion space for the TSA security area, increased security features, and created a more welcoming, functional, and comfortable environment throughout the terminal.

The project included a variety of traveler-focused spaces, from gathering areas and lounges to a sensory room, business room, interfaith and meditation room, and lactation room. Each space was thoughtfully designed to support the diverse needs of passengers while enhancing the overall airport experience.

We're grateful to have been part of a project that serves both our community and the many travelers who pass through CAE each year.

to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

This historic downtown church had not seen a major interior renovation since the early 1970s. Working alongside the congregation, our goal was to refresh the space while preserving the craftsmanship and character that make it special.

Original hardwood floors were uncovered and restored, stained glass window details were brought back to life, and the historic pews were carefully refurbished. New finishes, custom cushions and kneelers, and a Venetian plaster backdrop at the chancel help highlight the sanctuary's most treasured architectural features without competing with them.

A place for students to thrive!

We are proud to show the renovations of University of South Carolina Union campus located in Union, SC.

The renovation of USC Union’s Main Building transformed more than 25,000 SF of classrooms, offices, student spaces, and gathering areas while preserving the historic character that makes the building so special. What started as an effort to upgrade the building's aging mechanical system, transformed into an opportunity to update many of the building elements.

Original stairways, woodwork, paneled doors, and arched windows were restored alongside new finishes, lighting, accessibility upgrades, and flexible spaces designed for today’s students, faculty, and staff.

A fresh chapter for a building that has been part of campus life for generations.

Under construction at Cardinal Crossing! 🐸

Ribbit is taking shape in a former fitness studio, transforming the space into a playful new children’s retail shop.

Working from the Owners’ vision and selections, 1x1 Design helped bring the space together through space planning, furniture layout and coordination, custom checkout cabinetry, display walls, decorative lighting, and more.

With a fast-tracked schedule and a fall 2026 opening, we’re excited to watch this one come to life!

Project completed!

Corner Pantry Camden is bringing a fresh look to the everyday pit stop.

For its first ground-up store in years, Corner Pantry set out to create the next generation of its brand. Working from a concept by Paragon Solutions, 1x1 Design brought the vision to life with a complete architectural and engineering package for the new 5,065 SF store.

Bright, modern, and still unmistakably Corner Pantry—just with a little more polish.

We’re excited to celebrate Ember for receiving the People’s Choice Award in the Retail/Restaurant Design category!

It was such a rewarding project for our team to help bring Ember to life, creating a space that feels warm, elevated, and perfectly suited for the dining experience they envisioned.

Progress Report! 🏗️

More than a convenience store—this project is a glimpse into what's next for Corner Pantry.

Construction is underway on a new prototype location that may help shape future Corner Pantry stores. Designed to create a welcoming, fresh, and convenient experience for customers, this project reflects the brand's continued investment in serving communities across the region.

We're looking forward to seeing it take shape and sharing the finished result soon!

A few weeks ago, we were honored to sponsor Historic Columbia's 50th Annual Preservation Awards.

The evening brought together people who share a passion for preserving the buildings, places, and stories that make Columbia unique. From historic rehabilitations to thoughtful restorations, it was inspiring to celebrate the projects helping shape our community while honoring its past.

Supporting this event was especially meaningful to our team after receiving our sixth Preservation Award last year for the rehabilitation of the 175 year old Barton House at 1500 Calhoun Street. It was a privilege to return this year and celebrate the incredible work being done across our city.

Other past project receiving awards include St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bakery at Bull Street, Classen's, 1701 Pendleton, and 915 Lady Street.

Congratulations to all of this year's award recipients, and thank you to Historic Columbia for 50 years of preserving and sharing Columbia's rich history!
