Just a little routine neck surgery. Nothing to see here. 🎶🌱
This Drosera capensis (Cape sundew) has been growing a rather impressive 2-inch neck, so it was time for a little intervention.
We’re upgrading from a 3-inch pot to a deeper 4-inch pot, using a nutrient-poor mix of peat, perlite, and vermiculite.
A little trick I love: using the original pot to make a perfectly sized hole in the new substrate. That way, the root ball slips right into place without a lot of unnecessary disturbance.
We also tucked most of that long neck beneath the surface to give the plant better stability and an opportunity to develop additional roots.
And because apparently one sundew wasn’t enough, we carefully separated a few babies growing in the old pot and gave them their own home. 🌱
One freshly repotted sundew, a handful of new plants, and absolutely no elevator music was harmed in the process. 😂
