Fuchsia flowers are exquisite, bell-shaped blossoms that hang elegantly below the petals. Their trumpet-like, nectar-rich shape renders them a primary food source for hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies
They are celebrated for radiant bi-color combinations, including deep magenta, purple, pink, red, and white.

They bloom profusely from late spring through autumn.

Unique Characteristics: Edible Berries & Flowers: Following the fade of a flower, it produces a small, dark berry, and the entire plant is edible, often described as tasting like grape spiced with black pepper.

Blue Pollen: A few rare species native to New Zealand display blue pollen, historically utilized by indigenous Maori for face makeup. .

Care Tips for Wisconsin: Temperature Sensitivity: Tender fuchsias are cultivated as annuals or maintained as indoor/patio container plants during summer, necessitating protection prior to the first frost.

Light & Water: Fuchsias thrive in bright, indirect light or partial shade, and direct sun can scorch leaves and cause blooms to drop.

New Guinea impatiens (Impatiens hawkeri) are prized for their large, tropical 3" blooms in vibrant colors of red, orange, pink, purple and white. They are perfect for brightening up partially shaded garden beds or container arrangement.
Unlike traditional impatiens, they can tolerate more sunlight. However, they perform best when they receive morning sun and afternoon shade.

The pointed leaves are also highly ornamental, ranging from deep green to bronze and often featuring colorful variegation.

They require consistently moist, well-draining soil.

The flowers are a magnet for hummingbirds and butterflies in the garden.

Look what's blooming!
Cannas (often called "canna lilies") are heat-loving, tropical perennials known for their vibrant flowers and large, dramatic foliage.

They thrive in full sun, moist soil, and are major attractors for hummingbirds.

Overwintering: Cannas are hardy as perennials only in USDA Zones 7–10. In Wisconsin, the ground freezes, so you must lift the rhizomes in the fall after a frost blackens the foliage and store them in a cool, dark place until spring.
Soil & Moisture: These are thirsty plants that thrive in rich, consistently wet soil.
Seeds: Canna seeds are remarkably round and hard. Historically, their extremely durable seeds were used as beads in jewelry and as a substitute for sh***un pellets (buckshot).
Ancient Food Staple: Canna indica is native to the Americas and was one of the earliest domesticated plants. Its starchy, edible roots were a staple in ancient Peruvian diets and are still used today in Vietnam to make cellophane noodles.
