Sabella Carved Stone

Finishing up a project for Pencil Point Construction in Highland Park, which is a spec home built to the standards of a very high-quality custom home. We carved this Breakfast Rm fireplace surround from a solid Calacatta Gold block. Designed by Jay Cantrell, I like his unique interpretation of the Baroque surrounds throughout the house with their bold sculptural lines that bring both simplicity and contrasting dimension to the carving details.

I was really taken by the creative community spirit of these artists who work together, each with their own specialty, to create sculpture, mosaics, stained glass windows, ceilings, furniture, architectural details, etc, out of marble, bronze, glass, wrought iron, mosaics, and more. The idea is that one medium of art/artist needs help from the other to be successful. I'm very excited about making some special custom pieces with them in the near future.

Monty with Monteleon Designs made a few small profile and scale adjustments to a bolection mantel design that a client brought to have carved, and they made SUCH a big difference to how this fireplace surround turned out. I love working with naturally gifted people!

After work, I and the crew were able to enjoy a hike up into the mountains next to Vail. I even talked most of them into going rock climbing with me!

I'm sure that this room finished out very different from how it appears in this post installation photograph, but something about the purity of whites, simple classical lines, and the rawness of the unfinished materials draws me into this photo of our Kempton mantel carved from Calacatta Gold marble every time I come across it in my photo library.

This is a custom mantel we carved from a white marble quarry in North America that we are able to install 6 to 10 weeks from the point of ordering and approved CAD drawings.
