The best design starts with listening to your clients’ needs.

“Keep the cooking and cleaning separate from the kids running around.”

That was one of the first requests our clients had for their new kitchen and addition.

We went through many iterations to make the most of every square foot and create a space that’s easy to live in.

We landed on a BIG navy island that splits the room. The sink and prep zone stay on the working side, while everyone else gathers at multiple seating areas on the other.

Before this kitchen had warm wood cabinets, busy granite and half the space it has now. It couldn’t keep up with this family of six. Our clients knew exactly what they needed: room for everyone, and a cooking zone that stayed out of the traffic path (kids running around).

This room is the perfect excuse to get the family together for breakfast before a busy day. The Sweet Soirée breakfast nook went from a rough sketch on paper to everyone’s favorite spot in the house.

We kept the bones, layered in millwork, stuck with one paint color, and that’s when the room clicked.

DESIGNER NOTES, Kaycee Conallen and Jen Drummond:

1. Trim around the windows
2. Low paneled wainscoting
3. Tongue-and-groove ceiling boards

In the endless world of millwork, cabinetry is just the beginning. Walls, ceilings, and furniture are all fair game. Outside of paint and wallpaper, there are other options to get you that rich and organic feeling within your home.
