Our only class rule: LET’S BE HONEST. Even if it sucks.

Most of the time, we don’t say the REAL thing because it’s embarrassing.

But here’s what I told the room on night one of Become the Brand™:

Right now, none of us have the luxury of being embarrassed about what we’re going through.

There’s no such thing.

We’ve ALL been through something. Made the wrong decision. Lost money. Said yes when we should’ve said no. Got something wrong. Had something fail.

And you know what?

Your honesty might be the exact thing that helps somebody else.

THAT is the room I wanted to build.

Not a seminar.

Not a room where everybody pretends business is perfect.

A room where business owners can finally say the quiet part OUT LOUD, get the support they need and BUILD from there.

Because we’re not here just to be inspired.

We’re here to IMPLEMENT.

And we’re just getting started. 🔥

This season of life feels different.

Yes, I’m a restaurateur.
Yes, I own a kitchen.
Yes, I create food people love.

But I’m realizing more and more… I’m actually building FOOD SYSTEMS.

I’m helping create sustainability for restaurants, nonprofits, communities, urban agriculture programs, and food entrepreneurs because food touches EVERYBODY.

This conversation at the Business of Food Summit really allowed me to speak from a deeper place about food sovereignty, sustainability, access, dignity, and what it really takes to create long-term impact in our communities.

Detroit has some of the most innovative people in the country when it comes to food systems and I’m honored to be part of the conversation.

and what it REALLY means to build a food system that serves PEOPLE first.

I was hospitalized for a little while recently, and being on the other side of things really shifted something in me.

The care.
The patience.
The way y’all show up for people every single day…

To the incredible staff at Henry Ford Hospital (W. Grand Blvd) and healthcare workers everywhere — thank you. Truly.

It gave me a whole new appreciation for what you do and reminded me why I move the way I move.
