Coneflowers sulk and flop under oaks and along shady fences, but eight North Carolina natives evolved in exactly that dry shade and keep blooming there. Plant them in that bare spot and it fills with native bees, hummingbirds, and songbirds while pushing out the English ivy that was creeping in.

Mondo grass has been the go-to for years, but one native sedge handles the same spots better and asks for less.

🦌 Got a deer problem? We’ve got a plant for that! 🌿

Mountain Mint is a deer-resistant native plant with a strong minty aroma that deer tend to avoid. Plus, its blooms attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators! 🐝🦋

🌱 Deer-resistant. Pollinator-friendly. Native.

Come grab some Mountain Mint at Deep Roots Native Plant Nursery!

The best shrubs in a North Carolina yard aren't the ones stacked at the big-box garden center. Serious gardeners drive clear across the state to track these seven down, and once you know what they do for the goldfinches and butterflies, you understand why the hunt is worth it.
