This little s**t would not corporate last night while posing. I believe I have a doe and a buck and will be holding both back for a while to see what we got going.

I can’t believe it’s already October. We have processing day for 2 litters this week, vacation end of next week, we have a birthday party for our oldest, we have Halloween. We have end of year rabbit hut revamp before snow flies. All while soaking in the little moments.

Colder months brings next spring plannings with a new homestead location means big plans. Gardens, orchards, expanding rabbits, bringing back quail, debating on meat birds. All the things.

We chose meat rabbits for our homestead. Here’s why you should too!!!

🐰 Rapid breeding. The saying “they breed like rabbits” didn’t just drop out of the sky. I have only had one bad year where the rabbits didn’t produce. Rabbits only have a 30-35 day gestation. Producing 6-12 kits at a time. And can be bred back within 6-12 weeks depending on your need.

🐰 kits generally take 12-14 weeks to get to butcher weight. Making date to butcher quickly compared to other livestock.

🐰 We have 3 does and 2 bucks with more potentials growing out currently. We produces hundreds of pounds of meat a year when we stick to a schedule.

🐰 Rabbits do not need a lot of space. Rabbits are quiet and usually don’t stink. (They do take up more space when you expand and make it your whole personality 🤣) BUTTT someone who is just looking for meat typically doesn’t need a lot of space.

🐰Rabbits are a several purpose animal.
1) Meat. Rabbit meat is exceptionally lean and high in protein. It offers more protein and fewer calories then leading meat choices (beef, pork, turkey, and chicken) it also is packed with vitamins and minerals.
2) Pelts (crafts, animal treats, clothing)
3) Manure or Rabbit Black Gold. Their manure is one of the best fertilizers around!!!

So what’s holding you back from breeding your own meat today?!

But also. The drug problems are real in this country. It’s affected me personally. We’ve had to cut people, important people, out of our lives to protect or kids from seeing it. Homesteading has kept us busy enough though!

One just isn’t getting enough milk and is happy to take syringe feeding.

Yes the baby in the bag can breathe it is wide open. We use hot water with kit in baggie to quickly warm them up. He is not sustaining his own body temp. We aren’t sure what happened to it. But I am gonna fight as long as he wants to.
