When should you turn on your furnace for the first time?

There's no magic date on the calendar- but when those chilly mornings start rolling in, it's time to think about turning the heat back on.

A good rule of thumb; if your home is consistently feeling uncomfortable or indoor temperatures are dropping into the 60s, it's time to fire up the furnace.

Before you do, take a few minutes to:

- Change your air filter
- Make sure vents aren't blocked
- Clear away anything stored around your furnace
- Turn your thermostat up gradually
- Pay attention to any unusual smells or noises

And if your furnace doesn't sound, smell, or operate quite right, don't wait until the first really cold night to find out you have a problem.
