Freakishly Organized

Freakishly Organized East Bay Professional Organizing Experts Hi. I’ve been organizing, to some degree, my entire life. So, I’m branching out on my own.

I’m Gretchen Pfeffer, a friendly, patient, animal-loving Professional Organizer, with an artistic eye, based in the East Bay of California. I’ve done it for fun, to help my friends, and for peace of mind. This bizarre skill set eventually led me to work with another incredible professional organizer at his successful organizing business. But the owner has since moved to Hong Kong as of early September. Please let me know if I can help you get organized. I apologize, but my website is in the process of being constructed. Please contact me with any questions, or to set up a free consultation. Email: [email protected]

I've had a few friends contact me recently with organizing questions. A couple mentioned they wish they could be as organized as I am.

Well, to make those of you who think everything is always neat as a pin here, I shall introduce you to the current state of our garage and my office. Both have become dumping grounds during all of my projects. It's driving me nuts.

So, if you are feeling overwhelmed or bad about your current home organization situation - relax. Take a breath. You're not alone. Do what you can - when you can - even if it's going through one small box. If you sift through a little each day, you'll get it done. 📦

Organizing/purging trick:
Hang all of your clothes with the hooks of the hangers facing TOWARDS you. As you wear clothing, place them back in the usual back-facing position. Look at your closet or rack in a couple of months. You may find, as I have, you are wearing about only 1/4 of your clothes.
After 6 months - a year, get rid of the items you haven't worn. They're just taking up space.

Organizing, to me, is not just situating the stuff in your home or office. I believe you can organize your life, your tasks, your day - to make your life easier and more enjoyable.
Have a new puppy? Well, I do. With a new puppy comes lots of new things. Toys, food, crate, travel crate, puppy pads, training aids, treats, meds, cleaning supplies, paperwork, vet appointments, and on and on. All this new stuff requires organization. But what about all of the daily walks outside of your home?
We live on the second floor. When we first adopted Lisbeth a couple weeks ago, I would carry her outside to the first floor so she could do her business. Because she's becoming a veritable moose, I now cannot physically carry her the entire way. This means, we must try to make it outside before she has an accident. But, accidents happen.
Before, upon taking her out, I would shove a large, somewhat unwieldy wad of paper towels in my back pocket. If she p*ed on the way downstairs, I would stop and sop up the p*e as best I could, and toss it in the nearest trash receptacle. I'd quickly take her out, and after returning her safely to our place, I'd venture back out with my large bottle of Nature's Miracle, and more paper towels to clean up the mess.
Well, I finally decided to utilize my fancy custom belt bag (by Fashion Horse). I can throw it on in the morning, and upon each dog walk. In it, I have:
~ a large amount of paper towels
~ a small travel spray bottle, which I have filled with Nature's Miracle
~ prepackaged individual sani-wipes (to wipe my hands after removing disgusting items from one of our dog's mouths, such as discarded chicken bones)
~ a couple dollar bills for any person I meet who is in a bind, and
~ snack sized ziplock bag of cut hot dog/training treats (cannot keep in bag - need to add right before a walk, as they require refrigeration). Treats are kept in a separate pocket from the Nature's Miracle spray.
Now, if there's an accident on the way downstairs, I can immediately clean up the mess, and go about my day.
Little tricks like this make me happy.
