Dear friends and neighbors,
When I dreamed of Jenny’s General Store, I pictured more than shelves filled with things to sell.
I pictured a little shop here in Equality where people would stop in, take their time, and stay to chat. Somewhere you could find a favorite tea, discover an herb you’d been searching for, pick up something useful, and feel welcome every time you walked through the door.
That is still my vision.
I love the simple, natural, timeless things that make a general store special: a wonderful selection of herbs and teas, essential oils, old-fashioned toys, quilting supplies, and unexpected finds. I want Jenny’s to be the kind of place where you can ask questions, browse without being rushed, and talk to someone who cares about helping you find what you need.
And if I don’t have it, I’m willing to look for it. Please ask me about special orders. Knowing what you want helps me build a store that serves this community better.
But today, I need to share something that is hard to say.
The store is struggling, and I need more people to shop here for it to keep going.
My retirement is tied up in Jenny’s. This little store holds years of work, savings, and hope. I need it to work, and admitting that so openly leaves me feeling vulnerable. But I would rather be honest with my neighbors than quietly struggle and wish I had spoken up.
I know money is tight for many families. I understand that convenience matters and that every dollar has to stretch. I feel those same pressures.
As a small, independently owned store, I can’t always match the buying power or prices of the big-box stores. What I can offer is a carefully chosen selection, personal service, and the willingness to help you find something you may have trouble finding elsewhere.
And sometimes, my prices do compete. Even then, too few people are coming through the door to make the store sustainable. That has been one of the hardest parts.
Kind words, encouraging comments, and shared posts mean so much to me. They help people discover Jenny’s, and I am grateful for every one. But keeping the shelves stocked and the doors open also takes purchases.
If you want a little hometown store like Jenny’s to be here, please make shopping here part of your routine.
Before your next online order or trip out of town, consider checking with me. Stop in for your tea, herbs, spices, or a small gift. Ask about something you need. Tell a friend what you found. Your purchase doesn’t have to be large to matter—especially when those visits become a habit.
I still believe there is room for a shop where people know one another, conversations happen across the counter, and someone is happy to help you find just the right thing. I still believe Jenny’s can be that place for Equality.
To everyone who has already shopped, brought a friend, or come back again: thank you. You have given me reasons to keep believing in this dream.
And if you’ve been meaning to stop by, I hope you will. Come browse. Come chat. Let me show you what’s here.
I would love the chance to become your little hometown store.
With love and gratitude,
Jenny
