A grease fire on your stovetop? Never use water. It can cause the burning grease to splatter and spread the fire in seconds.
Here’s what to do instead:
• Turn off the heat if it’s safe to do so.
• Carefully cover the pan with a metal lid to smother the flames. Leave it covered until it has completely cooled.
• Never move the pan or use water on a grease fire.
• If the fire spreads or you feel unsafe, evacuate immediately and call 911.
Your safety comes first. Never risk getting too close to a fire to put it out.
