Sometimes, the biggest surprises in a remodel are the ones you can’t see coming.

Once walls, floors, ceilings, or cabinets are opened up, hidden issues like water damage, deteriorated framing, outdated wiring, plumbing leaks, or moisture problems can come to light.

These unexpected discoveries can affect the project’s scope, timeline, and cost—but addressing them properly is an important part of doing the job right.

At Right Hand Home, we believe in keeping homeowners informed when the unexpected happens. We assess the issue, explain what needs to be done, and communicate any changes before moving forward.

Because a beautiful remodel shouldn’t just cover up a problem—it should solve what’s underneath, too.

A tornado left this home with major damage, including a fallen tree, moisture issues, and structural problems. The homeowners brought in Right Hand Home NWA to help restore the home and make thoughtful improvements along the way.

From structural repairs and drying out the home to a complete master suite renovation, this project involved a lot more than simply repairing storm damage.

The master bathroom was redesigned with a more functional layout, new transom windows, imported Italian tile, rose-gold fixtures, a linear drain, and a rolling shower door. We also made improvements throughout the home, including Level 4 smooth ceilings, an exterior-venting range hood, and a dedicated pottery workspace with a utility sink and clay trap.

Watch the video to see how this tornado-damaged home was restored and transformed.

A fence can do more than mark your property line.

It can add privacy, security, curb appeal, and function—but the right fence depends on what you need it to accomplish.

Before choosing a style, consider your property’s slope, layout, landscaping, and access.

Start with the purpose. The right fence should work for your home—not just look good.

A great outdoor space isn't always about building one new feature. Sometimes it's about making several improvements work together.

For our client’s property, Right Hand Home completed several projects, including an enclosed shed, a new deck, and a privacy screen.

The finished space brings together privacy, usable outdoor space, and practical improvements while working with the existing property.

Our client shared that our team “understands my aesthetics,” keeps the project on schedule, and discusses any issues before moving forward.

They also described the quality of the work as excellent and said the jobs were completed perfectly.

We appreciate our client trusting Right Hand Home with multiple projects on their property and taking the time to share their experience.

Real project. Real results. Real homeowner feedback.

Checked out a potential rehab project, could have some real potential :-) but should I get into this? Would love to hear your opinion.

From a dusty outdoor area to a finished indoor-outdoor living space designed for year-round comfort.

For this Rogers remodel, we added insulated accordion doors, tongue-and-groove pine walls and ceilings, complementary tile flooring, HVAC, custom lighting, and more—all designed to make the space feel like a natural extension of the home.

The result? A more comfortable, functional space the homeowners can enjoy in every season.

One of the first places we look when evaluating an older deck is the connection to the house.

The ledger is a good example. If flashing isn't keeping water away from that connection, moisture can get behind the ledger and damage the framing or the home's rim area while the deck still looks normal from above.

The same idea applies to post-to-beam and joist connections.

The important lesson is that a deck's condition can't always be judged from the walking surface.

If an older deck moves, feels soft, shows deterioration, or has questionable connections, it's worth having the structure evaluated.

What makes an outdoor living space feel like it truly belongs with your home?

For one of our recent projects, Right Hand Home built a new patio roof and stairs, along with a separate covered bike storage area.

Our client shared that both spaces “feel like they belong with the house rather than something that was just added on,” and that the detail work took the whole build to another level.

That's what we aim for with outdoor living projects—creating additions that work with the existing home, look intentional, and make the space more enjoyable to use.

Our client also shared that the patio roof “completely changed how much time we spend outside.”

We're glad to hear the space is already getting plenty of use.

Thank you for trusting Right Hand Home with the project and for sharing your experience!

5 Kitchen Problems You May Not Realize Are Design Problems

Some kitchens don't need more square footage. They need a layout that works better.

A drawer that hits another cabinet, nowhere to set groceries beside the refrigerator, poor appliance placement, or storage that doesn't match the way you actually cook can make a kitchen frustrating even when everything technically works.

Those problems are easy to overlook because you've probably gotten used to them.

Before remodeling, pay attention to what makes your kitchen difficult to use—not just what makes it look outdated.

Which kitchen problem would you fix first?
