ALGAE !!!!

We want what many call carpet algae. It grows maybe 1 to 2”. When I see carpet algae it tells me the water is good. Good is not the right word. It is awesome , amazing , great for fish health. If your pond is green or long sting algae. You may have nutrients (waste) somewhere within the pond. If your algae is pea soup type or long string type algae? You have excessive nutrients. Filters need to be cleaned!!!A good biological filter takes time , sometimes a year or more to completely colonize your biological filters. I add beneficial bacteria monthly to all my ponds. Some claim snake oil. I feel it is a way to assist nature. Any area that is the perfect environment for the good bacteria to establish itself, will be colonized by the bacteria we want. We sometimes have issues with Ph. Anything below 7 will inhibit our good bacteria growth. They may die!!! The bacteria we want to grow actually needs more oxygen than our fish. If the water condition become good again. We need to seed recolonize those areas. Adding the bacteria we want helps nature and our fish. I could go on , but tired of typing🙏🎏.

We are having a judging exercise. We will be judging 4 sanke 1, 2, 3, 4. You can select your picks for 1, 2, 3, 4. There are two categories, judging for today and judging for future. Finally got my exercise pump installed from my old set up. I learned this from Grant Fugita. He had an exercise pump on his main growing pond, it ran twice a day for a hour. It turned the whole pond into a spinning pool of water. The fish had to swim or just float around. They swam , they swam strong. Muscle is the key to good body conformation.

If you have green water? Remember this , the water is safer for your fish. If your water turns green it means your biological media area is not established or not big enough to accommodate your waste load in the pond. The algae takes up these added nutrients and inhibits bad bacteria to get established . If you have a UV light and your water is clear ? This does not mean it is safe for your fish. If you have a UV ? Turn it off for awhile. If your water turns green. You need to check your biological supporting bacteria filtration and space. 🙏🎏
