Love seeing the pasque flowers that I planted on our dry hilltop re-emerge in the fall after a summer dormancy. Soon they will sleep again, but they will be the first ones awake this coming spring!

We have a good supply of two year-old bare root plants available this fall for shipping or pick up in late October. Order yours today! https://windflowernatives.com/product/pasque-flower/

This is it! Orders received today will ship out today. After that, we’re all done until May! (With the exception of bare...

After years of making my own plant cages for the species that I really want to ensure are not dug up when I plant them out in the fall, I’ve decided to give these cages from Seed Crown a shot. I ordered 150 for a customer of mine and added another 50 on for myself.

The biggest benefit that I’m seeing so far really boils down to how well they nest together. I can store them neatly and carry many of them with ease. They won’t survive a prescribed burn in the way that my hardware cloth cages do, but hopefully by that point they will have served their purpose.

Learning through experience! This was the first year I was able to offer purple rattlesnake root (Nabalus racemosus). Not every new learning adventure is tons of fun, but when a plant rewards you like this, it’s pretty exciting!

The Lawns to Legumes grant program is back for Spring 2027!

The Spring 2027 Lawns to Legumes grant application is open! 🐝🎉

🌼 Lawns to Legumes is a Minnesota-wide program that awards reimbursement-based funding of up to $400 for creating pollinator habitat in your outdoor space with native plants.

🦋 Why plant for pollinators? Minnesota is home to over 500 native bee species, along with many butterflies, moths, and other pollinators. These creatures are essential to ecosystem health — but many have faced population declines. Lawns to Legumes helps reverse this trend by creating pollinator-friendly plantings across the state.

⏰ Apply by November 30 for a chance to receive a Spring 2027 grant. Learn more and apply at https://bluethumb.org/lawns-to-legumes/apply/

Lawns to Legumes is coordinated by the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources and Blue Thumb, the education program of Metro Blooms.

A lesson in patience by way of the downy gentian.

Single pleated gentian seed landed in my flat of lilies last February. It bloomed today. 💜
