Music, art & nature that stir the soul Our music program seeks to create memorable experiences for performers and audience members alike.

Tippet Rise features several intimate musical performance venues whose size, shape and acoustics are inspired by many of history’s most influential music spaces. Alongside our music program, Tippet Rise is curating a growing collection of large-scale sculptures and other works by some of the world’s foremost artists and designers. Many are site-specific compositions for Tippet Rise, aiming to transcend the boundaries of art, nature and architecture. Additional facilities include housing for musicians and spaces for teaching, practice and recording. Artists in residence will create original works, inspired by the land and the majestic vistas of Montana.

Last Saturday, October 3rd, the Montana Youth Symphony visited Tippet Rise Art Center to perform a chamber music concert in the Olivier Music Barn.

The concert featured mixed ensembles of alumni from the Montana Youth Symphony summer festival orchestra, along with a chamber orchestra accompanied by pianist Tanner Jorden. The program included works by Johannes Brahms, Antonin Dvorak, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Now in its fifth year, the Montana Youth Symphony is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for young Montana musicians, including year-round chamber music performances, annual symphonic and chamber music composition competitions, conducting symposium, and the region’s premiere pre-professional orchestra festival each summer.

𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘖𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘰𝘯 𝘙𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴 is a three-movement choral cycle by Sarah Rimkus based on a set of three Dylan Thomas poems. The middle movement, 𝙒𝙚 𝙒𝙖𝙡𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙏𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙨, was performed by Roots in the Sky at Tippet Rise Art Center on September 6, 2025. On Friday, September 11th, poet Sean Hill gave a reading from his recent collection, 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙉𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚, as part of his weeklong residency at Tippet Rise. Hosting Sean at the art center was a joyous extension to that final week of the 2026 concert season.

Hill is also the author of 𝘿𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙨 and 𝘽𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙏𝙞𝙚𝙨 & 𝘽𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙇𝙞𝙦𝙪𝙤𝙧. His poems have appeared in 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘰, 𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘷𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘹𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯, 𝘗𝘰𝘦𝘵𝘳𝘺, 𝘛𝘪𝘯 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦, and numerous other journals, and in dozens of anthologies including 𝘉𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 and 𝘝𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘴. Hill lives in southwestern Montana with his family and is an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Montana.

Today is the last day of Hiking & Biking at Tippet Rise for the 2026 season and we thank everyone who has come out to explore the trails and experience the artwork this year! As we wind our way through winter, we will be looking forward to welcoming guests again next spring!

Today we share the last collection of portraits taken during Week Five of our 2026 concert season. It’s bittersweet to consider that we will have to wait another 10 months to document the expressions of an artist who just performed at Tippet Rise. In this group of photos there is nothing bitter, only sweet memories, as we recall the faces of pianist 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹, poet 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹, flutist 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗹, violinists 𝗚𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗲́𝘀 and 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗿, violists 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮 𝗟𝗶𝘂 and 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗹, and cellists 𝗔𝗿𝗹𝗲𝗻 𝗛𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗸𝗼 and 𝗦𝘆𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗲, and pianist 𝗝𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝘀𝘀.

Arlen Hlusko’s album 𝙠𝙤𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙗𝙞 features two works, 𝘓𝘰𝘵𝘶𝘴 𝘗𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘴 𝘜𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 and 𝘏𝘺𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘩 𝘎𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘴, by Paul V. Cortez, who is currently incarcerated at Sing Sing, a maximum-security prison in New York. A participant of Carnegie Hall’s Musical Connections program, Cortez's 12-movement Cello Suite Bouquet was inspired by Bach’s Cello Suites and by his lessons with Arlen, who serves as a teaching artist for the program.
