RSS was founded in 1996. Operating as a Native Plant Nursery offering support services for regulatory agencies through Planting and Site Maintenance Services. What isn’t widely known is that over the past 2 years we have adopted a new nursery name, RSS still provides the same services as usual. Gen 1 Natives is now the operating name for our Native Plant Nursery. We would also like to let you know we now have a retail plant center in Plant City at 2611 Turkey Creek Road where you can stop in and purchase both Native and Non Native Ornamental plants and Fruit trees for your home and garden. We even take special requests. We look forward to the continued support of our clients and all those we encounter moving forward.

Part 2 of the SAV planting for Pinellas County. Here on Lake Tarpon today collecting Pondweed aka Peppergrass if you bass fish. Forgot how much more difficult this is to pull compared to Eel Grass. Staying hydrated in the totes til we get to Alligator Lake and put them in their new home.

This week we are building excluder fences ahead of a Submersed Aquatic Vegetation planting for Pinellas County in Alligator Lake. Pondweed aka Pepper Grass and Eel Grass will be planted inside these fenced areas to help prevent the wildlife from disrupting root formation.

Well this week we’re down in Homestead planting a test plot Sawgrass Marsh where the marl clay was removed and lime rock shaved down to adjust water depths. Marl clay was returned and Sawgrass is going in to determine the best size plant to install and have good success. 13,080 total Sawgrass going in as well as 480 Elliott’s Lovegrass, 480 Muhly Grass and 480 Little Bluestem to help compliment the drier areas. - This is just the tip of the iceberg for what’s to come down here with 700 acres set to be planted when it’s all done.

Mangrove Point project was completed Friday! 22,000 one gallon Salt Tolerant grasses installed. From nearly a blank slate to what you can see in the videos this place looks nothing like it did 2 weeks ago. Let’s hope the environment isn’t too harsh on these new grasses.

Well this was unexpected! We often donate to good causes but seldom get recognition or at least not like this. It’s not expected, nor is it or was it necessary but it is appreciated.
We’ve kind of flown under the radar since opening in 1996, just trying to do what we hope is a great thing in re-establishing and maintaining native habitats throughout the state. We look forward to continuing our support of this event and many others that support the future of agriculture through youth participation.

🌱 Saturday Sponsor Spotlight! 🌱

Today we’re proud to shine the spotlight on RSS Field Services, Inc. — a family-owned and operated business serving Central Florida and beyond since 1996!

Did You Know?-RSS began by meeting a need in the mining industry through revegetation and exotic species control on mined lands. Today, they provide wholesale native plants, installation services, and natural-area and aquatic herbicide applications to help landowners, businesses, and government agencies care for and improve their properties.
From native plant restoration to maintaining lakes, ponds, streams, and marshes, RSS is committed to helping Florida’s natural spaces thrive. 🌿💧🦋

We are incredibly grateful for the support of RSS and their investment in our youth swine exhibitors! Thank you, RSS, for being a valued supporter of youth in agriculture! 🐷

Monday we kicked off a salt marsh restoration project where we are installing 22,000 one gallon salt tolerant species near Apollo Beach at the Mangrove Point Mitigation Bank. Will post a walk through video as we wrap up near the end of next week.

Had a frosty start to this week at 19 degrees. Little ice on the upland fields and a thin sheet on the wetlands. It’s not often this happens in central Florida. Glad warmer weather has made its way back. 🥶
