Three remodeling estimates can look like three prices for the same project. But if the design, scope and selections have not been defined, you may not be comparing the same project at all.

Each contractor is forced to make assumptions about what is included, which materials will be used and how the work will be completed. Those assumptions can produce very different numbers—and the lowest estimate on the front end may not be the lowest final cost.

• Daily project-management updates
• Weekly progress recaps
• Weekly look-aheads so you know what’s coming next
