Faux Gingerbread Cookies/ Ornaments

For me, the holidays are all about bringing the fun and whimsy. These faux gingerbread cookies are so fun for holiday decorating to tuck into places where you might want the look of the real cookie without needing to make a whole batch of real cookies.

I love to style these inside little glass jars, under cloches, or in a small holiday grouping or vignette. They are just a fun way to add some whimsy to your holiday decorating.

You could also make these into adorable ornaments for your tree. Just add a hole in the top before you bake them.

Comment “dough” and I will share the recipe to make these adorable little faux cookies or ornaments!

Many moons ago I was into scrapbooking and although I don’t do it any longer, I knew all that beautiful paper would be perfect for crafts.

I went digging around in my craft bins and pulled out some holiday prints that complemented the colors I am using for the holidays this year. Even if you need to pick up a pack of paper, you can find paper packs easily at local craft stores or even Amazon.

This project couldn’t be easier. I cut the paper into strips 6 inches long by 1 inch wide using my paper cutter to keep the edges straight and then stapled the rings together. That’s it!

Handmade pieces will bring that cottage charm to your tree for the holidays and I can’t wait to finish decorating my tree ( it’s only half done here😉). Some of my favorite Christmas things are the simplest ones.

I hope you’ll come back and join me as I decorate for Christmas with all these DIYs I have been sharing.

What colors or patterns would you use for this project?

Save this post for all your Christmas crafting and decorating!

Tonight at 7 p.m. EST, Sue’s Home for the Holidays collection, including the pieces from our collaboration, will be revealed on Facebook Live. Her shop opens at 8 p.m. EST. You can visit Sue’s Instagram Sue Potter | Handmade Decor or my story for a link to her website!
The soul behind this collection is honoring the stories our homes tell, especially around the holidays. To me, nothing holds more stories than an old quilt, and it is a reminder of how important it is to tell your stories and have those pieces in your home that bring back memories.
Sometimes the best way to preserve a story is to take something and repurpose it so it can continue to be enjoyed. I found a quilt many months ago. It was extremely worn, torn, tattered, and stained, unusable as an actual blanket. I knew that quilt had many stories, so I brought it home with me, not knowing at the time what exactly I was going to do with it.
Several months later, Sue and I started discussing a collaboration, and I knew the old, tattered quilt was going to be perfect. Sue is an extremely talented seamstress, and I was so excited to collaborate with her on this project for her holiday collection.
You can purchase the little stockings individually or as a set of 5 to make a garland. All the stockings come with the small card pictured, so you can write down your Christmas memories, and each year, when you open the box with the stockings, you can look back and remember.
Please reach out to Sue or me with any questions you may have, and we hope you love these little stockings as much as we do.

Check my stories a bit before 8 pm tonight for a link to shop her website!

Easy DIY Cottage Style Ruffle Trees
This year for the holidays, I am just loving that handmade, cottage-style look in my home. I created these trees with just a few supplies and there was PLENTY of supplies to make multiple trees. I had tons of leftovers after making 3 trees.

Here is what I did to create the trees:
1. I started at the bottom of the tree, secured a piece of the ruffle with hot glue, measured the ruffle all the way around the tree and then cut the trim. Then, I went back and glued the trim all the way around.
2. I overlapped each piece as I moved up the tree.
3. You will want to make a small top for your tree with a piece of the trim.
4. I added a small bow and that was it!
5. You can customize the color and ribbon to your style!

Comment “ruffle” and I will share a link for all the supplies!

Save this for all your Christmas crafting!

Vintage inspired Christmas tree

Small little changes can have a big impact. I’ve had these battery-operated tree candles for a couple years and I wanted them to have more of a vintage look. So, I found some vintage-looking clips and made an easy swap. I used a little hot glue to secure them and added the candles to the tree.

I am all about trying to use what I already have and making small changes. I think this little project will add the perfect amount of vintage charm to my tree this year.

Helpful tip: When you make these, hold the candle in place until the glue dries and then bend the little pieces back to the middle😉

Comment “candle” and I’ll send the link for the candles and the clips I used!

Taking a little break from all the Christmas DIYs to share our cozy autumn home.

I wanted to pause and simply enjoy what’s already here: the last few zinnias in the garden, the dried hydrangeas in the thrifted basket on the table, the handmade wreath, a napping pup in the warm sunlight and the warm glow of our home.

Autumn is the season our home feels extra cozy. Taking it all in before the snow covers the ground, the air turns cold and the autumn leaves fade into the evergreen.

There is nothing I love more than sharing cozy, cottage home inspiration with all of you. I hope you find some inspiration for your home!

I would love to know, which room in your home feels most like fall right now?

Thrifted shirt Christmas bows
How am I making my Christmas bows this year? With thrifted shirts! I picked up these shirts at the thrift store for $2 each. What I love about this is you can get several bows in varying sizes from one shirt and then use the scraps for other projects.

You can thrift shirts in any color palette that goes with your holiday decor. I love to mix colors and patterns, this is an easy and affordable way to do that. Also, if you can find shirts in larger sizes, you can stretch your dollar even more.

I cut the shirt fabric into strips using pinking shears and then tied them into simple bows. I kept all the scraps and used the smaller pieces to add to some ornaments and I even made some little bows for the ornaments as well.

Such a simple, easy and affordable way to make your holiday decorating unique and tailor it to your style!

Where are some other places you would add these bows?

Save this for when you are ready to decorate for Christmas!

Target has some very pretty Christmas pieces this year, but for me, there is just something about making my own that makes the holidays feel special.

This is one of the easiest projects and all it required was digging around in my craft and Christmas bins for a few items.

I pulled out an older tree that I have had for a long time, some stems that I use for cutting (ones that I am not using in arrangements and I have already cut apart for other projects) and some faux fruit.

Also, I always see tons of these little trees at the thrift store this time of year as well as bags of faux fruit. Even if you don’t have these items at home, you could make this for very little.

I had the sugared apples but I made a few more sugared or “frosted” fruit pieces using Stacie Moore tutorial she had shared last year. So simple to do. Just add a layer of Mod Podge, sprinkle on the baking soda and glitter mixture and let them dry. You can brush off the excess once they are dry.

I used floral wire to hang everything on the tree and added a gingham ribbon!

I think this little tree looks so cozy in the crock and it will fit in perfectly with my cottagecore Christmas this year.

I still have so many more projects to share, I hope you will come back and join me.

Comment “tree” and I’ll share some product suggestions just in case you need them!
