Don’t bag those leaves- put them to work in your garden! 🍂

Fallen leaves are one of natures best mulches! Instead of sending them to the curb, give them a second life among your plants!

Why use leaves as mulch?
Insulate your plants: a layer of leaves helps protect plant roots and crowns from North Dakota’s harsh winter temperatures and freeze thaw cycles.
Keep soil cool and moist: leaves help regulate soil temperatures during the fall and reduce moisture loss.
Build healthier soil: as the leaves break down, they return valuable organic matter and nutrients to the soil, feeding the life beneath the surface.

A little fall gardening tip: Too many leaves left on your lawn can block sunlight and air, suffocating your grass. Take them up, then spread them around your garden beds instead! Shred them if you can to help prevent matting and keep them in place.
