Good morning everyone!! Today is the day!!! Petal it Forward 2026!! Be on the lookout for our cheer spreading volunteers today!

This is the last bunch of flowers I picked from our wild flower patch at my house. Everything is still so beautiful, but once it freezes this week they will all be gone 😢😢😢 If you are out and about and would like some flowers from our little wild flower patch, feel free to help yourself! ( pretend not to see all the weeds that have grown lately 😬👀) Might as well enjoy that last little bit of the growing season and share the beauty.

We are looking for 4-5 people to help spread joy this Wednesday October 14th. We weren't planning on doing Petal it Forward this year but spur of the moment we decided that Adair County could use a little happiness 🙂

So, what is Petal it Forward?

For the last eleven years, thousands of floral industry members in all 50 states have organized their teams on one day in October to take part in Petal It Forward, SAF’s goodwill initiative where participants hand two flowers or bouquets to an unsuspecting stranger, urging them to keep one and share the other with someone else. It’s a powerful way to illustrate the positive health benefits of giving and receiving flowers.

What would you be doing?

You would get a bucket of flowers and find people to give them to. Each person gets handed 2 flowers and is told to keep one and give the other one to someone else. You could do this anywhere in the surrounding areas...doesn't have to be just in Greenfield. In the past we have hung out at Caseys or walked around Fareway. You could visit people you know or just find random people on the street. The whole idea is to show people how much happiness something as simple as a flower brings, especially an unexpected flower. It also brings the person passing them out a lot of joy! We've only had maybe one or 2 people in 11 years say they didn't want one lol.

If you are interested in helping out and spreading joy with flowers just comment or message and I will get you on the list and have your flowers waiting for you to pick up Wednesday!!

Would you believe me if I told you that the back room was clean and organized when I started at 6 this morning?!? 👀😬

Just means we had a great couple of days doing homecoming flowers. I love how trends come and go. For so long everyone just wanted white flowers, now multi color is coming back!

If you have pic, post them! I always tell myself I will take pics, but almost never happens. Have a great weekend everyone! We will be ready to go again by prom…. hopefully 🤣

When purchasing wrapped bouquets we often get the question “Will these be ok out of water for an hour or so?” Yes, absolutely! With the exception of it being too hot or too cold, they will be just fine!!

So many of our flowers come from Central and South America and even the Netherlands ! By the time we receive them they have traveled THOUSANDS of miles without water.

When the flower stems are out of water the ends of the stems dry up and try to seal themselves up to reduce moisture loss. The only thing you need to do is cut the stems when you get them home so that dry end is gone and the flowers can drink up the water easier.

I was tasked with making an Iowa State wreath for the big game this weekend. Those that know me know I don’t care much about the sports balls, but for this game I must choose sides!!!

My brother was an insane Iowa Hawkeye fan along with my grandparents and parents, so that’s the side I choose. 🖤💛 That also may be the reason that I fell up the wooden stairs while carrying supplies for the Iowa State wreath and also forgot the Iowa State logo at home…. Thanks Greg C Wallace I got the message loud and clear!! Even though it is for the “wrong “ team, I think it turned out really nice! Who wants an Iowa Hawkeye wreath so I can even out my karma a bit and please those family members off in Hawkeye Heaven ?!? 🤣

We have also been busy transitioning the shop from summer to fall and maybe even a peep of winter if you look hard enough 👀🎄. I even gave in and made a fall arrangement for the cooler. Stop in and see us while you are out hitting the garage sales!! We are open till 4 today and 9-12 tomorrow.

Be careful out there everyone… there was even a traffic jam in my alley this morning from garage sale hunters!!

We have been organizing and updating our framing samples. We have this whole stack of mat board color samples. I set one on the ruler so you could see the size. Anyone want some or all? I think they might be useful, but for what and to who is the question 🤣

🎶 It’s the most wonderful time of the year 🎶

No, I’m not talking about Christmas! I’m talking about right now. It’s getting a little cooler, the sun sets earlier, school started up, flowers are at their peak in everyone’s yards, and the colors are slowly turning to deep reds and oranges.

This bouquet reminds me of a late summer sunset. The flowers were sourced locally and abroad! We are proud to partner with many sources and even grow some of our own.

🌹The roses, alstroemeria, and carnations came from our regular wholesaler out of Des Moines. They get flowers from all over… Central and South America, Canada, Holland, and so many places all over the globe

👨‍🔧The hydrangeas were picked fresh from my parents yard by our handy go-fer and do-er of all things. My Dad, Doug ❤️

💜The explosion grass and hosta blooms came from my yard with the help of Violet.

🌻💐🌸And last ,but certainly not least , everything else you see came from Doud Farms located in Adair County!! She has amazing and insanely fresh flowers that she meticulously grows. That hot pink celosia in this bouquet makes my flower heart so happy !!

Treat yourself to some flowers. It doesn’t matter if they are random things you found in a ditch, professionally arranged, or a combo of both! Flowers have a way of spreading cheer that can’t be replicated by anything else.

On behalf of all parents, I formally apologize to the teachers for the semi feral children we are returning to you. You deserve much more than flowers but flowers can’t hurt right??

You don’t have to have a special occasion to have flowers in your home.

You don’t have to have a fancy arrangement of roses and orchids professionally arranged in the center of your table.

Even a handful of flowers from the garden plopped in a water bottle on a messy table are enough to bring cheer and lift your spirits!!

Flowers aren’t even perfect ! They don’t need all of their petals in perfect symmetry, a special day , a pristine clean and professionally decorated house to shine their brightest.

Do things that make you happy! Don’t wait for the perfect moment because it may never come. Get fresh flowers, stay up late to see a meteor shower, get up early to see a sunrise, take a random day off just because. You are worth it ❤️
