OKLAHOMA PEEPS, stories like this are why we need stronger regulations for septic installers!

It appears this 8 unit apartment complex has been using a residential aerobic system rated for 400 gpd. The complex would produce about 1600 gpd. The aerobic system is 25% of what was needed! But no regulatory inspections are required so no one caught it until people started getting sick and complaining.

They probably had kids & pets playing in untreated sewage then carrying the pathogens inside to share with the family. The woman in the video isn't sick from the sewer gasses. She probably has pink eye from a pet she lets outside every day!

You don't live in the apartment complex so, why does this matter to you? When you walk outside in the morning and it smells like 💩, that is your neighbor's untreated sewage because Oklahoma doesn't require any inspections or maintenance like TX, FL and every other state I know of. And it isn't about making money on inspections - these states allow homeowners to get certified to do their own.

So, you don't live in a subdivision, and you think it doesn't apply to you? You're wrong. Your non-working septic system pollutes every property downstream of you. And, if that isn't enough, think about every non-working septic upstream of you.

Legislators like to talk about the water crisis Oklahoma has but we need to start talking about the wastewater crisis at the same time. One thing that separates a 1st world country and a 3rd world country is the quality of its water. I despise government overreach but the one thing that is their job is to protect citizens when it's a public health issue and people will not do the right thing on their own.

Tag or reach out to your legislator and let them know that you can't enjoy your morning coffee on the porch because of the smell from the aerobic systems around you!

We are moving them to the front of the schedule!

When he called he just said they had a broken line, I did NOT expect it to be running out like this!

There are a few contributing factors to the problem - first they cut soil to make the trucking yard when they bought it without knowing where the drainfield was and they ended up with less than 1” of coverage over the chambers. They also have a water leak somewhere in the building that has probably been flooding the drainfield for awhile but the sandy soil was absorbing it so it didn’t surface, finally the truck driving over the line created a path to surface for the water.

Fixing the water leak will dry out the drainfield but it won’t fix the fact that the chambers are only 1/2” below surface with semis driving over them daily. So they will be getting a new system that is out of the drive area.

Perfect example of why you need to get your septic system inspected and located when buying a new property!

Bring a well water sample to the following counties on September 23, 2026 to get a water test:
• Cimarron County OSU Extension (8:30 - 9:30 a.m.)
• Texas County OSU Extension (12:00 - 1:00 p.m.)
• Beaver County OSU Extension (2:30 - 3:30 p.m.)
• Woods County OSU Extension (6:30 - 7:30 p.m.)

Submitted water samples are tested for nitrates, total dissolved solids, pH and E.coli presence.

H&H Septic Solutions, Inc. did two giveaways at the conference a “women’s” bag and a “men’s” bag. How awesome is it that women won both?!

The owners bought this lot in a small lake community to build a weekend retreat. They were told all the utilities were already here. I guess they were, in the barest sense. Lol.

It appears the bathroom was built right over the septic tank but there was also an outhouse I wish I would have gotten a picture of - no hole dug under it, just a cutout opening in a shack 2’ above the ground.

This project will have a lot of challenges - the road is so tight we won’t be able to get trucks or trailers down to it so everything will have to be carried in on a pickup or by excavator. Once we’re there, fitting everything on the lot will be another challenge.

Luckily, the homeowner knows it’s going to be tight so they are planning to install the septic before construction starts.

In case you were wondering, it’s hot as hell and I was sweating like a fat guy after dinner by the time I got back in the AC.
