Let’s talk Fungus Gnats. We just got in some sundew and Mexican butterwort- 2 carnivorous plants that target these pesky things (and other little flying bugs like fruit flies!).

These annoying little gnats are a common houseplant pest. They love moist soil and will lay eggs in the top layer. Once the eggs hatch, the larvae hang out there until they turn into those annoying little gnats that we see flying around.

These little guys can be difficult to get rid of- you have to treat for every stage of their life cycle to get rid of them completely. Luckily, we have what you need to do just that!

To get the adults- sticky traps and carnivorous plants that attract them are your best friend.

For the eggs and larvae- use diatomaceous earth on DRY (key here) soil. You can also make a sort of “tea” using mosquito bits and water the plant with it for about a month.

Letting the top layer of soil dry between waterings is a great way to prevent fungus gnats too!
