Another custom project wrapped up by Roots and Canopy Solutions.

The stain is still drying on this 20’ × 20’ custom carport/pavilion. It was built to complement its wooded setting while providing plenty of covered space and a finished look from every angle.

Built with KDAT lumber, the structure features enclosed rafters and soffits, decorative gable framing, a burgundy metal roof, and a warm cedar stain to bring out the natural character of the wood.

Built from the ground up for this property—not dropped off from a kit.

Most people don’t think about dangerous trees until it’s too late.

The massive oak off the corner of the home, in the first picture, split at the base during the tornadoes that tore through NEPA.

Thankfully, the house was spared. Many other trees came down that day.

Here’s the question:

Would you have known this tree was a problem before the storm? 🌳

Shout out to TJ at Skisland Painting for putting this beautiful finish on the small deck we built last November. It really highlights the potential for traditional wooden decks.

⚠️ Another hazardous tree safely removed! 🌳

Today’s project involved a dead ash tree that had snapped approximately 20 feet up and become suspended in the canopy of a large maple. Situations like this are extremely dangerous because the broken stem is under tension and can shift unexpectedly during removal.

Our crew carefully rigged the entire tree down in controlled sections to eliminate the hazard without causing damage to the surrounding property.

While we were on site, we also:
✅ Removed the large maple the ash was hung up in.
✅ Raised the canopy on another mature maple in front of the home to improve clearance, appearance, and overall tree health.
✅ Completed a full cleanup, leaving the property looking better than when we arrived.

Every tree is different, and jobs like this are a reminder that experience, proper equipment, and careful planning matter when working around homes and people.

If you have a dead, damaged, or hazardous tree, don’t wait until the next storm to find out how dangerous it really is.

🏡 Framing Complete on This Custom Home Addition

Projects like this are exactly why experience matters.

What appears to be a straightforward addition from the outside required careful planning and precise ex*****on from the very beginning.

This project presented several unique challenges:

✔️ Installing foundation piers around existing underground electrical infrastructure
✔️ Tying into a home with an angled gable end
✔️ Connecting a new roof system to an existing structure with a completely different roof pitch
✔️ Building an addition where there were virtually no true right angles to reference

These are the kinds of conditions that can’t be solved with a standard set of plans or a one-size-fits-all approach. Every measurement, layout decision, and structural connection had to be carefully engineered and executed to ensure the finished addition looks and performs as though it was always part of the original home.

Today, the framing is complete, and the results speak for themselves.

The new space features:
• A spacious vaulted ceiling that creates an open, airy feel
• Large windows designed to bring natural light and wooded views indoors
• ZIP System sheathing for superior weather protection and energy performance
• Engineered framing and structural connections designed for long-term durability
• Rooflines and transitions that integrate seamlessly with the existing structure

The true measure of a successful addition is that most people will never notice the complexity behind it. They’ll simply assume it was built with the house.

That’s exactly the goal.

At Roots & Canopy Solutions, we specialize in solving complex construction challenges while delivering finished projects that look natural, intentional, and built to last.

🚗🏡 Custom 20’ x 20’ Timber Frame Carport / Pavilion

Simple. Elegant. Built to last.

This custom 20’ x 20’ structure was designed from the ground up by Roots & Canopy Solutions—from the building plans all the way through construction. While it’s currently serving as a carport, the design is versatile enough to function as a beautiful pavilion, outdoor gathering space, or future enclosed structure.

Features include:
✔️ Premium KDAT (Kiln Dried After Treatment) lumber for superior stability and reduced warping
✔️ Heavy timber-frame construction with exposed beams and craftsmanship details
✔️ Durable burgundy metal roofing
✔️ Engineered and built by one company from start to finish
✔️ Designed to complement wooded and rural properties

If you notice a little yellow on the roof, that’s not dirt—it’s tree pollen. Nature was putting it back faster than we could clean it for the photos! 😆

Next up, we’ll be enclosing the underside of the rafters and applying a rich stain to create a finished ceiling appearance that elevates the entire structure. We believe details matter, and finishing the underside ensures the final product looks refined and intentional—not like an afterthought.

Whether you’re looking for a custom carport, pavilion, timber-frame structure, garage, or outdoor living space, we can design and build something that fits your property and your vision.

Problem Solved. Property Protected. 🏗️🌳

The Roots and Canopy Tree Solutions team just wrapped up a technical crane project involving the removal of 10 trees and a massive lead overhanging the roof.

The main challenge? Four of these trees had grown directly into the homeowner's existing deck over the years, creating a structural nightmare.

Using a crane allowed us to "surgically" lift these trees vertically out of the deck, preventing any damage to the boards or the house.
Working with the Homeowner:
We don’t just cut and haul; we listen. At the client's request, we preserved specific parts of the canopy for their lifestyle:

✅ Two trees were cut to height to keep the existing hammock setup.
✅ Two trunks were leveled off to serve as sturdy bases for future outdoor tabletops.

The Result: 10 hazards removed, the roof cleared, and the property left pristine. When we pulled away, the only thing left behind was a safer yard and a very happy client.

If your trees are starting to "reclaim" your deck or threaten your roof, call the team that values responsiveness and professional cleanup.
